Ecom Freedom Review (2023): Dan Vas a Scam?!

Amazon FBA is a very popular business model, where people claim you can become a millionaire by opening a store on the Amazon marketplace. But can Ecom Freedom really help you build a profitable business on Amazon?

As an Internet entrepreneur, I’m in a good position to share with you everything I know about the program. Over the years, I’ve reviewed hundreds of programs, software and even MLMs.

As a disclaimer, I’m not affiliated with Ecom Freedom. It means I’m not paid to write this review. So you can rest assured that you will get an honest and unbiased review from me.

At the end of this review, I’ll also tell you the best alternative to Ecom Freedom that has enabled me to make a full-time passive income online.

What is Ecom Freedom?

Ecom Freedom is a course created by Dan Vas that promises to give you a step-by-step guide on how to succeed in this business. The course is available in both video and PDF format, with a total of 100+ hours of HD Step-by-Step Video.

Aside from the video and PDF materials, you’ll also get unlimited mentorship and Facebook community access, a course boxset, lifetime access to the course and updates, and even mentorship calls with 7 figure Amazon sellers and Dan Vas himself.

But, here’s a little heads-up for you. While they claim to have 100+ hours of video content, it’s important to note that their sales webpage video breakdown only adds up to about 39 hours. It’s not quite the 100+ hours as promised, but they seem to include recorded coaching calls to make up the difference.

Who is Dan Vas?

Dan Vas is a successful entrepreneur with an extensive knowledge of online business. He started his journey in dropshipping in 2017 and launched his first course, Shopify Freedom, in 2018.

Dan Vas

But some people were skeptical about the course and accused it of being a scam. So, Dan came up with a new project, Ecom Freedom, to address their concerns.

Apart from running his online business, Dan is also a well-known YouTube personality with over 465k subscribers (as of writing) on his self-titled channel.

His videos cover a wide range of topics, including Amazon FBA tools, building a brand, achieving financial freedom, and generating free website traffic. In addition, he offers tips and tricks on how to make money quickly and easily.

How does Ecom Freedom help you make money?

This online course is designed to teach you the ins and outs of selling on two of the most popular ecommerce platforms: Amazon and Shopify.

The program offers two main courses – an Amazon FBA course and a Shopify course. Both courses cover multiple strategies for selling, but Ecom Freedom focuses specifically on private labeling. This means you’ll learn how to create your own branded physical products to sell on either Amazon or Shopify.

With Amazon FBA, your product will be listed on Amazon’s website, and customers will find and buy it through the platform. With Shopify, you’ll be setting up your own website and trying to drive customers to it.

While both routes have their benefits, it seems that Amazon FBA is the more popular option among Ecom Freedom students. Given the size of Amazon’s customer base, this isn’t surprising – it’s an enormous marketplace that can offer a lot of opportunities for ecommerce entrepreneurs.

How is the training structured?

Here’s what you can expect once you log in:

Course Options:

Upon logging in, you’ll be prompted to choose between two courses: Amazon FBA or Shopify. The Amazon FBA Course has 12 modules, while the Shopify Course has 10.

Each course contains over 100 hours of video training, which includes the live call recordings. The video lessons vary in length from 2 to 40+ minutes and are complemented by a helpful text summary of each lesson.

Video Training:

Both courses are well-structured and comprehensive. The only downside is that there isn’t a search function to easily refer back to specific lessons or topics.

However, you’ll have access to “Unlimited Mentorship with 7 Figure Sellers via Private FB Messenger.” This means you can message other members of the private community with any questions or struggles you have.

Bonus Courses:

When you sign up for either the Shopify or FBA program, you also get access to two bonus courses. Although both courses are quite short – around 2 hours of video content combined – they provide valuable information to those new to entrepreneurship. These courses cover mindset shifts required to succeed in business, taxes, registering a business, budgeting, and setting up bank accounts.

Community:

Ecom Freedom has private Facebook groups for both Amazon FBA and Shopify courses. While the FBA group has over 7000 members and the Shopify group has over 4000 members, I expected them to be more active. Nonetheless, the admins and moderators in each group are knowledgeable, helpful, and responsive.

Is Dan Vas a scam?

Dan Vas isn’t a scam. His training program, Ecom Freedom, seems to be well-structured, and it’s not limited to Amazon or Shopify. The program focuses heavily on developing a positive mindset and also covers various legal aspects, including tax regulations in different countries like the US, UK, EU, Canada, and Australia.

Based on my research and personal experience, I believe that Dan’s training program saves most students a lot of time and frustration when building their eCommerce business. However, one thing that makes Dan Vas a bit mysterious is that not much is known about him, except for his apparent success as an Amazon seller.

Despite some accusations online claiming that Dan Vas is a conman, I found little substance to these claims.

With over 11,000 students enrolled in his paid courses, it’s not surprising to see a few disgruntled customers, but overall, the positive reviews and feedback greatly outnumber the negative ones.

That said, I’m not a fan of the claim on the sales page for Ecom Freedom’s Amazon FBA course, where Dan considers now as the golden age of Amazon FBA. While it’s still possible to make money with this business model, it’s not as easy as it used to be.

Are Ecom Freedom students getting results?

If you’re thinking about joining Ecom Freedom’s program, you might have browsed through their website and seen all the success stories posted on there. But before you get too excited, you should take a closer look at the testimonials.

First of all, you should notice that most of the screenshots are from 2019 and 2020. This could mean two things: either Ecom Freedom is slacking on updating their marketing materials, or their students haven’t been doing as well lately.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the screenshots mostly show revenue, not profit. And as we’ve discussed in our research on Amazon FBA profitability, the profit margin for an FBA business typically ranges from 10-20%. This means that someone reporting $10,000 in revenue is likely earning only $1,000-2,000 in profit.

So, while these testimonials can be inspiring, it’s important to take them with a grain of salt. It’s also worth considering that success in the world of ecommerce requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and a bit of luck.

How much does Ecom Freedom cost?

Here’s what you need to know about the cost of this program.

Amazon FBA Course

The Amazon FBA course is available at the following prices:

  • $1997 one-time
  • Two monthly payments of $1098 ($2196 total)
  • Three monthly payments of $799 ($2397 total)

These prices include lifetime access to the training and all updates. If you’re not sure if the course is right for you, you can try it out for free with the 7-day trial offered by Ecom Freedom.

Additional Costs

In a video on the course sales page, Dan notes that to give yourself the best chance of success with the course, you should have a budget of at least $1500, and ideally $3000. This budget is for signing up for premium software like Jungle Scout, buying inventory, and paying for advertising.

Shopify Course

The Ecom Freedom Shopify Course is available at the following prices:

  • $997 one-time
  • Two monthly payments of $547 ($1094 total)
  • Three monthly payments of $397 ($1191 total)

These prices also include lifetime access to the training and all updates. In the first module of the course, Dan lays out three budget options for starting your e-commerce business:

  • Low Starting Budget ($750 – $1,000)
  • Medium Starting Budget ($1,500 – $2,500)
  • High Starting Budget ($2,500 – $5,000)

Additional Costs

There is no information about additional costs on the Shopify course sales page.

Shopify Blueprint Mini-Course

Ecom Freedom also offers a mini-course called The Shopify Blueprint, which costs $297.

Refund Policy & Free Trial

Ecom Freedom offers a free trial available for both courses, but it’s important to understand the details before signing up.

Free Trial Details

The free trial lasts for 7 days and gives you access to the first 3 modules of the program. However, you will be required to enter your payment information before accessing the trial. If you don’t cancel within 7 days, you will be charged for the full course.

Cancellation and Upgrade Options

Ecom Freedom provides instructions on how to cancel the free trial within the training. They also offer the option to upgrade ahead of time, which charges your card and gives you full access to the training before the 7-day trial period ends.

Refund Policy

After the initial 7-day free trial period, Ecom Freedom has a strict no refund policy for both the Amazon FBA and Shopify courses. They state that the 7-day trial period is ample time to make an informed decision on whether to keep the course or not.

Shopify Blueprint Training

It’s important to note that there is no free trial or refund policy for the Ecom Freedom Shopify Blueprint training. This is due to the sensitive nature of the information provided in the course.

The Bottom Line

While the free trial is a great opportunity to sample the program, it’s easy to forget about the payment details and get charged unexpectedly.

Personally, I prefer a simple upfront payment with a no-questions-asked refund policy that lasts for at least 30 days. However, it’s ultimately up to you to decide if the free trial and refund policy work for your needs.

Praise for Ecom Freedom

1. Thorough step-by-step walkthrough

One of the best things about Ecom Freedom is the thorough step-by-step walkthrough provided in the course. The program guides you through every step of the process, from choosing a product to finding a supplier and launching your product. The video quality is good, making it easy to follow along with the instructions.

2. Access to a private Facebook group

Ecom Freedom provides students with unlimited access to a private Facebook group with over 15,000 members. This community is a great resource for asking questions, sharing ideas, and connecting with like-minded individuals who are also starting their own FBA business.

3. Free Amazon Listing review

Another great perk of Ecom Freedom is the free review of your Amazon Listing by an experienced FBA team member. This review can help you improve your product listing, making it more attractive to potential customers and ultimately increasing your sales.

4. Regular course updates

Finally, Ecom Freedom provides regular course updates for life. As the FBA landscape changes, this ensures that students are always up-to-date with the latest best practices and strategies for success. This commitment to ongoing education sets Ecom Freedom apart from other FBA courses.

Criticism of Ecom Freedom

1. Too Many Promises

One of the first things you’ll notice about the Ecom Freedom program is the abundance of promises. Claims such as “How to Guarantee Success with Ecom Freedom” can be misleading as no course or coach can guarantee success on Amazon’s private label business.

2. Free Content on YouTube

Dan Vas shares a lot of similar content for free on his YouTube channel. While this content can be helpful, it begs the question of whether it’s worth paying for the program when some of the information is available for free.

3. Unsubstantiated Claims

The claim that over 10,000 students “have been able to quit their jobs” is not backed by any evidence. While this could be true, it’s important to approach such claims with a healthy dose of skepticism.

4. Pushy Sales Tactics

The upfront sales pitch for the Ecom Freedom program can come across as overly pushy. Some people may find this approach off-putting and question the value of the program as a result.

5. Minimal Customer Service

Some students report that the customer service advice provided by Ecom Freedom is generic and minimally helpful. This can be frustrating when trying to troubleshoot problems with the program.

6. Expensive Compared to Other Ecommerce Courses

The Ecom Freedom program can be somewhat expensive when compared to other ecommerce courses. This is something to consider when evaluating the program’s overall value.

7. Lack of Success Stories

There is a lack of significant success stories from students who started after 2020. While this may not be a dealbreaker, it’s important to consider if the program is still producing successful results for its students.

8. No Search Functionality

One of the frustrating aspects of the Ecom Freedom program is the lack of search functionality. This can make it difficult to find specific lessons, especially if you’re trying to reference something you’ve already learned.

9. Dan Vas is a Bit of a Mystery

Aside from his sales numbers, Dan Vas is a bit of a mystery. Some people may prefer a program where they feel like they know the person behind it better.

Is Ecom Freedom a scam?

Ecom Freedom is not a scam. It’s a legit program that teaches you how to launch an Amazon FBA or Shopify business. However, it’s not a guarantee that you’ll make money from it. Like any business, it takes time, effort, and a bit of luck to succeed.

If you’re a fan of Dan Vas and his teaching style, then Ecom Freedom might be a good fit for you. You’ll learn some useful tips and get access to mentors within the program’s training and private community.

If you’re still unsure, you can try the 7-day free trial to see if it’s the right fit for you. Just remember to set a reminder before the trial period ends, so you can cancel if you’re not seeing enough value.

However, if you’re on a tight budget or not particularly interested in learning from Dan Vas, it’s better to start with some lower-priced courses to test the waters and see if ecommerce is the right business for you.

5 Challenges of Amazon FBA Business

1. Intense Competition Can Be Tough to Overcome

If you’re thinking of selling a popular product, be prepared to face a lot of competition. Winning the Buy Box is essential for making sales, and it’s even more critical on mobile devices where customers are less likely to scroll down and review other sellers. It’s crucial to have a long-term strategy to remain competitive.

2. Starting Costs Can Be High

Starting an Amazon FBA business can be costly. You’ll need to pay for inventory, product samples, labeling, and shipping costs, not to mention Amazon Marketing Services. On top of that, you’ll need to spend money on product launch services and pay-per-click advertising. Your first $10,000 will be gone in no time. If you’re not ready to take a financial risk, you should think twice before starting an Amazon FBA business.

3. Cash Flow Can Be a Challenge

Cash flow is essential to the success of any business, and in the Amazon FBA business model, you’ll need to invest a significant amount of money into buying inventory from Chinese suppliers. If you want to create a unique private label product, the costs will be even higher. Creating a prototype in China can cost a few hundred dollars, and production can take 1-2 months. Moreover, it can take months for you to get paid for the inventory you purchased. If you’re not prepared to wait for your money, the Amazon FBA business model might not be for you.

4. Fees Can Eat into Your Profits

Amazon charges retailers a commission for every product sold through them, and if you choose to go with the FBA route, there are other fees to consider. You’ll have fulfillment fees per item, as well as monthly storage costs. Therefore, it’s essential to calculate your total costs and ensure that your profit margins can cover these fees.

5. Amazon Policies Can Be Restrictive

Another potential issue with running an Amazon FBA business is dealing with changing sales tax laws, category restrictions, and Amazon policies. Amazon has the final say on what you can and cannot sell on their platform, and violating any of their rules could result in a permanent ban. To avoid this, it’s recommended that you build your own website where you have more control over your business and can make your own rules and grow your business on your own terms.

Is there a better way to make money online?

If you’re new to online business, you might wonder if there’s a better business model that doesn’t need initial capital and can do it as a side hustle.

Of all the business models I’ve tried, affiliate marketing is the easiest and most rewarding so far.

In affiliate marketing, you can run your business at almost zero cost. Most importantly, you don’t need to invest in creating and developing any products.

Also, it is less time-consuming since you don’t have to manage inventory or handle customer service.

You can enjoy a steady stream of passive income while going on vacation or working a full-time job.

Since the world is full of uncertainty, I’d always choose a business model that has the lowest risk.

But How Much Can You Earn in Affiliate Marketing?

A 21-year-old student from my #1 recommended training platform of affiliate marketing was able to earn $7,395 in just 1 week, which means he made more than $1k a day…all while using free traffic methods and affiliate marketing.
