Are you looking for a BJK University review? If you are looking to make money online, you may have heard of BJK University. But you may be wondering if it is a scam.
It’s my passion to help people learn more about online money-making opportunities. Over the years, I have tested a number of programs and software like BJK University.
This past week, I thoroughly researched BJK University so I can tell you more about it.
I would like to point out that I am not affiliated with BJK University. This means that I am not paid to write this report. So you can be sure that my words are unbiased.
At the end of this BJK University review, I will also share with you a better alternative that has allowed me to earn a passive full-time income online.
What is BJK University?
Bashar J. Katou developed BJK University. It uses the Amazon FBA model and helps you build an online business.
It’s about the same as all the other Amazon FBA courses I have reviewed. Bashar uses a lot of ads and social media to aggressively promote his course.
According to Bashar, BJK University is the program to attend if you are new to online sales. The course is advertised as a course for beginners.
He also claims that he had to try a lot before becoming an Amazon seller. This means that he will share his strategies with you in the program.
When you visit his website, you will be greeted by a 3-minute video that is supposed to sell you the idea. Since he only showed his supposed wealth, I was not convinced. There was not much information about what BJK University offers.
Anyway, he claims that he can teach you how to find profitable products to sell on Amazon. Let us find out if he is right, but first, get to know him.
What is an Amazon FBA Business?
Amazon FBA allows you to choose the products you want to sell, find a supplier, order, pack, and ship them. Amazon stores everything in one of its fulfillment centers, and takes care of everything else.
Fulfillment by Amazon lets you tap into Amazon’s extensive distribution network. Amazon warehouses your products, fulfills orders, and even handles customer service, so you can focus on other aspects of your business.
Essentially, as an entrepreneur, you can run your business like a large company without the burdens that come with it. You can focus on finding product opportunities while Amazon handles the rest.
In a typical eCommerce business, you must ship products to customers on time. FBA, however, typically delivers orders in two to five days to Amazon Prime members.
Another common problem with an eCommerce store is that inventorying and adding new products can complicate your business. With FBA, you simply send your products to an Amazon warehouse, and Amazon handles the rest. It is easy to expand your product line and inventory without significantly adding to your workload.
Who is Bashar J Katou?
Bashar J. Katou immigrated to Detroit, Michigan, in the United States around 2006. His father managed a garment factory in Iraq. A year later, he immigrated to California.
Bashar, who has been an entrepreneur all his life, started his first business at the age of 19 with his brother.
A fire that destroyed the business he had built left him bankrupt and unable to pay his bills. That happened in 2015.
I do not know why most inspirational triumph stories begin with tragedy, but I recognize the pattern because it often applies to my own life. Every success story seems to be a comeback story, whether it’s a famous actor, athlete, entrepreneur, or anyone else.
My own is, and maybe yours is, too.
The climaxes and twists of some stories are over the top, but that does not make them wrong. As for the lesson, it is this:
Most people do not get where they want to go without first trying and failing. It’s rare for someone to succeed brilliantly on the first try.
As so often happens, victory follows adversity. When everything else fails. And it seems that this is also true for Bashar.
His life changed in 2015 when he lost his bar and restaurant and discovered Amazon FBA.
Bashar launched his channel on YouTube in 2017, and he’s gained tens of thousands of viewers (or more by the time you read this) by filming and sharing many of his journeys online. Millions of people follow him on Instagram.
Bashar launched BJK University in 2019.
He now earns seven figures a year selling on Amazon. The content he (constantly) creates shows his dedication, expertise, and marketing skills.
An added bonus is that he’s extremely determined, so it’s beneficial for aspiring entrepreneurs to be in his “sphere of influence” (even if it’s harder now that his course has gained popularity).
BJK University Training
BJK University’s training is about six weeks, and students can expect to learn the following topics through a series of webinars and “bite-sized” modules:
- Strategies and Formulas
- Finding Profitable Products
- Negotiation and Supplier Management
- Purchasing, Shipping, Tariffs, Inventory Management
- Branding, Private Labeling, UPC Codes
- Amazon FBA Fees
- Product Listings, Descriptions, Titles, Optimization, Prime Club, etc.
- Organic Reviews and Negative Reviews
- PPC Advertising, Sales Funnels, Incentives
You also get:
- Five weekly webinars (coaches are supposed to have reached six figures with their own FBA stores)
- Q&A With Coaches
- Facebook Group
In this course, you will learn theory and concepts. Bashar explains how Grinders make money with a single product, while Rainmakers make money with multiple products.
Deciding which products you should sell on Amazon FBA is not as easy as it sounds.
Other FBA courses might recommend anti-gravity planters, self-stirring cups, and hand dishwashers, but Bashar avoids them. Maybe they are dominated by one brand, have higher Amazon FBA fees, or maybe no one is looking for them.
Below are more lessons you will learn at BJK University:
- You should not pitch a product just because you like it. People will buy what you sell if you offer it to them.
- Choose reliable products that you do not have to worry about.
- Bank on people’s desire for ease of use, because that’s a surefire way to increase sales.
- Start with simple products like pet food and baby formula before moving on to more complex products like electronics.
- If you find a product with high-profit margins and high demand, you can quickly expand your business by buying a sponsored listing. But only if the net profit exceeds the cost.
- The higher the initial investment in a product, the more competitive the market.
- Even if a product seems perfect at the moment, competition could drive the price down significantly before you have sold all your inventory.
Some difficulties with Amazon FBA that you might hear about in the program or from fellow students include the following:
Selling something on the internet and getting paid for it is not easy. On the first page of Amazon’s search results, you’ll typically find 10 merchants who account for 80 percent or more of the site’s annual sales. You can learn the skills necessary to become a top 10 seller, but so can everyone else, and they are.
Having your website rank first on Google is not the same as having your products rank first on Amazon. Your website may contain several hundred to several thousand items. Even if only 20% of your pages appear on the first page, your website can still generate a lot of traffic and revenue.
While eBay may have tens of thousands of products, Amazon only has tens of thousands. It’s possible that you only have a few. More is no use if most of them are not prominently featured on the very first page. You have already spent money on these goods, and paying to keep them is a waste of money.
How Does the BJK University Work?
With Amazon FBA, you can sell physical products online without having to worry about warehousing, packaging, shipping, invoicing, and returns processing.
Amazon will perform these tasks for you in exchange for fulfillment and storage fees.
BJK University shows you how to deal with Amazon FBA and gives you specific strategies to help you stand out from your competitors.
The basic idea is this:
- Find niche products
- Associate them with your brand
- Stand out and add value,
- Sell your products for more than you paid for them.
Signing up for BJK University is not a simple process. Instead, you’ll need to go through one of Bashar’s sales funnels, which you’ll likely find through an ad, YouTube, or his social media profiles.
Depending on when you read this post, you could fall into one of the funnels. Since you are here, there’s a good chance you have already fallen into BJK University’s funnel.
Currently, you will be redirected to a page where you can access a free case study. Bashar tells you a bit of his own story, sells you on a lifestyle, and shows you some success stories.
You can then apply to see if you qualify.
Then you answer a series of questions, go from page to page, and provide your full name, email address, and phone number.
The enrollment coach will contact you with your phone number.
You will also be asked what your target monthly profit is, what is holding you back, and how long you have been following Bashar.
The next step is to write a short essay explaining what sets you apart from other applicants and why they should work with you.
Before you submit your application and schedule an interview, answer these three questions:
- When can you start?
- Can you guarantee that you will answer the phone at the appointed time (if you do not promise this, you will be disqualified)?
- Do you have the funds (or access to funds) to get started.
If you have the funds, a registration coach will contact you and encourage you to sign up. It is very helpful for the enrollment coach to educate you on the need for finances before you buy.
Free tutorials can be found on Bashar’s YouTube channel if you do not have money. Money is still needed for products, fees, etc.
Is BJK University Legit?
BJK University is legit. However, before you decide to sign up for the programme, I think you should take note of the following red flags:
Red Flag #1 – Showing Gross Revenues Rather Than Net Profit
The revenue and profit projections for any online service are wrong. I also do not believe the five and six-figure monthly numbers BJK University cites are accurate.
You can not stay afloat with a million dollars in revenue per month (or even per week) if your costs are also enormous.
They do not tell the whole story until you factor in things like product costs, shipping fees, Amazon FBA fees, advertising expenses, etc.
Red Flag #2 – Selling Lifestyle Rather Than Expertise
Bashar denies being one of those gurus who brag about their expensive cars, mansions and yachts. That’s partly true, but there’s also a certain “lifestyle” being sold. Twenty times ROI and $5,000-$6,000 monthly incomes are mentioned.
Throughout Bashar’s case study video, he casually intersperses images of a yacht, a jet, and a Ferrari. His collage of mocking photos of the “gurus” along with photos of him and his wife on a boat and in a Bentley makes the whole thing sound like a get-rich-quick scheme. And what if it’s not?
Still, he tells it like it is when it comes to Amazon FBA. He warns that it’s not a quick or easy process, but rather a marathon. He also tells you right at the beginning that you need money.
Also, the lifestyle claims are not completely unrealistic extremes.
Red Flag #3 – No Standard Price For BJK University
If you have ever applied to university, you know that the cost is listed immediately. Many educational institutions offer tuition calculators on their websites and go into detail about associated costs, such as the cost of books and housing.
If I can not scroll down to see the price, I immediately have doubts about the legitimacy of the advertised education or programme.
I’ll explain how much BJK University will cost you in a moment, but the fact that you have to contact an enrollment coach to find out the cost instead of seeing it online is a red flag. This does not prove that BJK University is a scam, but it does show that it’s not cheap.
Red Flag #4 – Fake Scarcity
There was a countdown timer where you could enter your data and get a bonus for acting quickly. The only thing wrong with incentives is dishonest incentives.
On one of BJK University’s sales pages, there was a timer that reset every time the page was updated, so it was obviously fake.
But it’s possible that this was just a technical problem, and Bashar seems to have abandoned this (fake?) timer anyway. I am not sure if he just removed it temporarily, or if he’s trying out a new sales strategy.
His current strategy of limiting supply works to increase exclusivity. BJK University is not for sale. Its eligibility is under review.
Considering that BJK University is more than just a course, this scarcity could be real. It’s becoming increasingly difficult for Bashar to keep up with his rapidly growing number of students in terms of live webinars, questions and coaching.
In order to maintain order and meet the needs of students who are actually paying for services, it might be prudent to set a cap on enrollment.
Despite some obvious warning signs, BJK University is a real institution. Everything you need to know to build an Amazon FBA business and be successful is included. In addition, you can participate in regular webinars and communicate with other FBA sellers.
BJK University Pros and Cons
- Tutorials and webinars are regularly updated
- Bashar is a practitioner instead of a theorist
- Customer support is available
- In addition to Amazon FBA, it includes business knowledge in other fields
- As enrollment increases, Bashar has gradually withdrawn from supporting students. Perhaps he is retreating into his luxurious lifestyle. This is common in most money-making programs when there is no active community. After all, the coach himself is too busy to serve every student.
- BJK University lacks transparency compared to a real university, where course descriptions, schedules, and fees are posted online. It gives you the impression that you are being deprived of important information. You might reasonably ask why.
- BJK University is too expensive. BJK University is sold at $3800, and this does not include the cost of inventory and tools.
- The refund policy is unclear. If it’s only three days, as some have suggested, I do not think that’s enough time to make a fair judgment.
- The sales tactics are too pushy (shortages, enrollment trainers, lifestyle sales, etc).
Is BJK University A Scam? Read These Complaints!
BJK University is not a scam. However, it is not a program I can recommend with a clear conscience. The program has many flaws and the business model it teaches is too difficult for newbies who lack money.
To determine if it’s worth your hard-earned money, you might want to look at the complaints first:
1. The coaching is a waste of time
The coaching they offer is absolutely terrible.
You do not get detailed answers to all your questions. You only get bland, general answers that do not help you in any way.
Therefore, you have to ask for help from the community, which mostly consists of newbies with little knowledge.
I believe that the vast majority of people will not make money because of this.
Even without newbies, the business model has a low success rate.
2. Lack of important details and transparency
If you are a beginner, you will find the course pretty hard to follow. The course content is messy. They teach you different strategies but you have no clue which one is the best and which one you should follow.
Also, a lot of the small details are not covered by the course, which is however important for newbies. After paying so much for the course, you still need to Google many things to solve the problems yourself.
Worse, BJK University is not transparent when it sells its courses. A student complained on Trustpilot that BJK University refused to send him course information such as the topics covered. He was pushed into buying the course, however.
3. The focus is too much on being a life coach instead of making money
Instead of helping you make money, coaches are more concerned with getting your life in order.
Their excuse is that you need the right attitude to succeed in business.
That’s not what you signed up for.
Even though they were told they would receive a training plan to make money with Amazon FBA, buyers did not sign up for a therapist.
4. Positive reviews reek of fakery
In my opinion, most online reviews seem to be fake.
It seems that the five-star reviews on Trustpilot are all exactly the same, just worded differently, which makes me suspect that it is the same person.
No one mentions that you can make money with BJK University, even if they are not fake, just that it is an excellent training programme with a helpful community.
If people were actually making money, they would be all over the forums telling how it changed their lives and how much money they made.
But there is nothing of that to be seen.
5. Too expensive
Just does not seem worth it to me considering the general training and bland coaching advice.
You are being coached rather than taught how to make money.
There are systems to make money faster and with less effort for $47 per month, some with a free trial.
What about $3800 just to get your foot in the door? And what if it does not work out?
I can not accept that.
I have been doing internet marketing for 5 years for a lot less money.
Is Bashar J. Katou a Scam or Real Deal?
Bashar J. Katou is not a scam. He is a legit guru. But as mentioned earlier, I won’t recommend signing up for his course.
Bashar’s behaviours bother me. In reality, he is like all gurus, even though he says he is not like most of them.
Gurus like him believe that people do not notice false claims, even though it’s very easy to google them these days.
Bashar also uses a false scarcity approach in his programme. Remember that he keeps running the same ads claiming that there are only a few spots left for his programme.
The programme has been running for months. How come there are still a few spots left? They should have all been filled by now, right?
To put it mildly, the programme is pretty mediocre. It’s hyped up because Bashar pays for advertising for it.
Bashar over-hyped the earning potential of Amazon FBA without pointing out the difficulties.
Let us take a look at the problems with Amazon FBA business below and you will know that it is much harder than you think.
Problems With BJK University’s Amazon FBA Business Model
Here are the problems that Ryan Rigney doesn’t tell you because he is selling you the course.
1. FBA business needs a large upfront cost.
To launch a business on Amazon, you will need $15-20k, at least.
Moreover, you have to spend money on testing a number of products in order to find out that winning product. This means you have to create listings for different products and filter out best selling products from the unremarkable ones.
This process is time-consuming and costs a lot of money. So, you must think carefully if you really want to risk your hard-earned money.
2. FBA Business is sophisticated
You have to face a lot of challenges in Amazon FBA. For instance, you’ll have to negotiate with suppliers, make comparisons on shipping companies, freight forwarders and comply with the regulations of Amazon and local governments, etc. This process is too sophisticated for beginners who might be just looking for a side hustle or a source of passive income that requires little time and investment.
3. There is no quick cash flow
Cash flow is the lifeblood of a business. However, in the Amazon FBA business model, mostly sellers have to invest a considerable amount of money to purchase inventories from suppliers in China.
If you want to create a unique private label product, the costs will be even higher. For example, most manufacturers in China charge you a few hundred dollars just for creating a prototype. If you don’t trust me, you can ask for a price on Alibaba.com.
In most cases, production may take 1-2 months depending on the nature of the products and quantity. Afterwards, it takes 2 weeks in shipment and customs clearance before arriving at Amazon warehouse.
This process indicates that it can take up to months before you’re paid for the inventory you bought.
4. Price war reduces profitability
Price war is ubiquitous on Amazon. Whenever a seller tries to attract more customers by lowering the prices, other sellers will be forced to cut their prices as well.
To avoid a net loss, you might have to cut the product costs. This results in lower product quality, negative feedback from customers and hence a drop in sales.
Apart from the intense competition, you have to deal with changing sales tax laws, category restrictions and Amazon policies.
In the worst case, Amazon might even ban your account permanently if you mistakenly violate some rules.
BJK University Pricing and Hidden Costs
BJK University currently costs $3800 to attend, and for that price you get lifetime access. The price and terms of access may change depending on when you read this.
However, there are other costs associated with starting an Amazon FBA business. Amazon FBA is an expensive business. In some markets, it’s cheaper than brick and mortar or selling houses.
Here are some of the additional costs.
Tools (product research, listing monitoring and analytics) – $29/month.
JungleScout is a tool that can be used for product research (assessing product potential, demand based on keyword research, etc.). It costs between $29 and $84 per month, depending on the plan.
Helium 10 is another tool that can do the job. Prices range from $39 per month to $249 per month or more for custom plans (which you will not need initially).
Products for sale – $1000+.
Even if you only have $1000 available, it’s risky to start with that amount. Despite your budget, your cost of goods sold (on Amazon) should be about 25% of your revenue (before FBA fees).
So if you want to make $10,000 in sales (before fees), your total product cost (including shipping) should be around $2,000. The recommended number of units (at BJK University) should not exceed 200.
UPC codes – $5 to $10
Barcode Mania (barcodemania.com) costs $4.99 for one code, $10.00 for five codes, and $15.00 for ten codes.
You need barcodes for each product you sell. Each barcode must be unique.
Brand Logo – Free up to $100
Also, your products need a brand with a logo. With tools like Canva, you can design logos for free. Alternatively, you can hire a freelancer on Fiverr, Upwork or Freelancer to design your logo. The cost can range from $25 to $100.
Product photos – Free up to $100
If your vendor provides photos, do not use the same stock photos that other vendors use. Alternatively, you can edit these stock photos with infographics, comparisons, comments, etc.
If your vendor does not provide photos, you’ll need to take your own, which means you’ll need a sample before you can post the listing.
You’ll need nice photos either way. You have probably searched on Amazon before for something with low-resolution, generic images. Because of those images, you probably passed on buying it.
Photographs are important. You can create a photo package yourself or hire a freelancer if you have the skills. Depending on the situation, a photo package can cost up to $100 per product.
Amazon seller account – $0.99/unit or $39.99/month.
For top rankings on product pages, if you sell more than 40 units per month, you need a professional seller account. It costs $39.99/month.
Amazon FBA fees – 25% of total sales.
In addition, Amazon charges for storage, fulfilment, referrals, and possibly advertising, high volume listings, etc. You should aim for a cost of around 25% of your total sales, although this will vary depending on the type and size of your product.
Product Samples – $100+
This is an expense you should not skip, but it is optional. Spending thousands of dollars on hundreds of units before you get a sample is risky if you do not know exactly what you are buying.
Amazon FBA Inspection Service – $150 – $300.
A second optional expense, but one you should not skip. An Amazon inspection service like QIMA is based in China and will inspect your products and production equipment before you place your order.
It is also possible to have the products shipped to your home so you can inspect them yourself. After that, you can ship them to Amazon yourself.
If your products are substandard or, worse, defective, there may be nothing you can do. In some cases, quality issues may force you to sell at a much lower price than you had planned. Defective products could mean a total loss.
It’s tempting to skip this step, but it’s crucial. If you hire an inspection service or inspect the products yourself, remember that substandard or defective products will result in returns and negative reviews. They can also lead to your Amazon seller account being suspended.
BJK University Refund Policy
I am a little confused about BJK’s reimbursement policy. As far as I know, you have three days from the date of purchase and cannot use more than 30 percent of the course.
In my opinion, three days is too short, especially for something you can not research very thoroughly before buying.
Considering that some members might copy the course and then ask for a refund, it seems fair to limit your commitment to 30 percent.
Who is BJK University For?
BJK University may not be for everyone.
Investing money is the first step. In my opinion, $10,000 and $15,000 are ideal, but that’s just my opinion. While I do not know your circumstances and how risk averse you are, I have seen many people go broke building online businesses (myself included).
A $10,000 to $15,000 safety buffer is why I recommend it. If something goes wrong with your first product, you still have some room to grow.
However, for BJK University, you need at least $6,000. That will cover your course fee and still leave you with a few thousand.
Beyond that, the ideal person should not be in a hurry. BJK University is not something you will buy and profit from tomorrow.
You can not start an Amazon FBA business if you owe rent and car payments at the end of the month.
BJK University may be a good choice for you if you are happy with your current situation and do not mind waiting several months (or longer) to get your investment back.
This is not a programme that will be done for you. Bashar and his team will support you, but they will not do the work for you. BJK University is a programme for those who want to do the work.
It is not for you if you are just dabbling or expect to make an income in the top 1% with a work ethic in the bottom 10%.
BJK University Review: Final Verdict
Founded by an expert FBA vendor and online marketer, BJK University provides some quality training.
However, the course is overpriced and it is not for everyone, especially beginners.
Because the program lacks a clear structure, only experienced business owners, even if they are unfamiliar with Amazon FBA, understand what they are getting into.
A lot of people have unrealistic expectations about how much time and money they can make with online businesses like BJK University when they first start out.
The reality is that, of all the ways to make money online, Amazon FBA is the most expensive and difficult to get started. You need to source products and keep them in stock in order to run an eCom store on Amazon. It costs tens of thousands of dollars just to become a seller.
In most cases, you’ll probably need more than $25,000. Still, success isn’t guaranteed after paying for all the costs.
Best Alternative to BJK University: Make Passive Income Online
If you’re new to online business, you might wonder if there’s a better business model that doesn’t need initial capital and can do it as a side-hustle.
Of all the business models I’ve tried, affiliate marketing is the easiest and most rewarding so far. It is less time consuming since you don’t have to manage inventory or handle customer service.
It can help you to generate a steady stream of passive income while going on vacation or working a full-time job.
Since the world is full of uncertainty, I’d always choose a business model that has the lowest risk.
But How Much Can You Earn in Affiliate Marketing?
A 21-year old student from my #1 recommended training platform of affiliate marketing was able to earn $7,395 in just 1 week, which means he made more than $1k a day…all while using free traffic methods and affiliate marketing.
Wealthy Affiliate has existed for more than 10 years and there are many success stories over the years.
