If you are interested in the Amazon FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) business, you might have heard of Derrick Struggle who is pitching you his course Amazon FBA Heroes.
But is Derrick Struggle a scam? After all, there are so many fake gurus out there and they just want to pocket your hard earned money.
Since I’m not affiliated with Derrick Struggle, you can rest assured that my review is genuine and unbiased.
But before I proceed to walk you through the training programme, I’d like to let you know that it’s never been easy with making money on Amazon where a plethora of sellers will compete with you.
So, at the end of this article, I will tell you a better alternative which can really help you generate a steady passive income at zero cost.
Below is what I will cover in the review of Derrick Struggle and his course Amazon FBA Heroes.
Who is Derrick Struggle?
Derrick Struggle is an entrepreneur who established his own training programme on selling products through the marketplace of Amazon.
Before launching his programme, he has been creating a lot of videos on Youtube in the hope of promoting the course. It seems he does have some sense with Amazon FBA business, though there’s not much information on his track record or whether he’s built any famous brands.
An Overview of Amazon FBA Heroes Course
Amazon FBA Heroes course teaches you how to launch an eCommerce store selling physical products on Amazon.
It comes with 4+hours training videos that take you through the process of starting your Amazon FBA business from scratch and a private Facebook group where you can interact with other members and ask Derrick questions.
In case you don’t know what is Amazon FBA, here’s the video for you:

But you might say Derrick is more straight to the point as most of the training videos are relatively short, only a few minutes long.
How Much is Derrick Struggle’s Course?
Derrick Struggle offers you two payment options, either a one-time payment of $1997 or 2 payments of each $597 to buy Amazon FBA Heroes. This is quite a lot of money especially when most of the content can be found on Youtube or blog posts for free. So, is it worth your hard earned money?
The Pros and Cons of Derrick Struggle’s Course
- There is a webinar for you to ask questions and get in touch with other students in real time.
- The course structure is organized in a way for you to start from A to Z on Amazon business.
- The course is suitable for beginners who are new to Amazon FBA.
- The course is not comprehensive with only four hours of video content. Some of them are only a few minutes long, even shorter than Youtube videos.
- Derrick doesn’t teach you any product research method other than using programs like Jungle Scout. In fact, you can do a lot more research at Alibaba.
- Derrick doesn’t teach any new strategies that can help newcomers find a rich niche to survive the competition of Amazon.
- There are so many negative reviews on Amazon FBA Heros and the success rate among members seem to be particularly low.
Is Derrick Struggle a Scam?
I don’t think Derrick is a scam.
But you have to ask yourself whether his course is worth nearly $1000. After all, most of the information featured in Amazon FBA Heroes can be found for free online. You can get access to the same content on Youtube, blogs, or other eBooks.
Worse still, Derrick doesn’t tell you the challenges in Amazon FBA business. For example, it can take many steps to determine if a product will be hot selling on Amazon, not to mention that the competition level for every product niche is rising from time to time.
At the end of the day, you might even fail to recover what you have paid for the Derrick’s programme.
The problems with Amazon FBA Heroes that Derrick Struggle doesn’t tell you
Most of the eCom gurus who are selling Amazon FBA courses tend to downplay the difficulties of surviving the intense competition.
Below are the problems with Amazon FBA that Derrick Struggle doesn’t tell you:
FBA business needs a large upfront cost
To start a business on Amazon, you will need $15-20k, at least.
Besides, since you can’t get started without any knowledge, you have to pay for an FBA course. The Wealth Network, for instance, cost $49.99 per month.
Moreover, you have to spend money on product samples and inventory, labeling and shipping costs, product launch services/pay-per-click advertising and Amazon Marketing Services. The first 10k will be quickly exhausted once you start selling on Amazon.
In short, it is time-consuming and costs a lot of money. So, you must think twice before you risk your hard earned money.
FBA Business is complex
Though Amazon does a lot of the work for you, it still requires a lot of work to get a product listing up and optimized.
Apart from that, you have to deal with numerous dry tasks on a daily basis. For instance, you have to negotiate with suppliers, make comparisons on shipping companies, freight forwarders and comply with the regulations of Amazon and local governments, etc.
This process is too sophisticated for beginners who might be just looking for a side hustle or a source of passive income that requires little time and investment.
There is no quick cash flow
Cash flow is the lifeblood of a business. However, in the Amazon FBA business model, mostly sellers have to invest a considerable amount of money to purchase inventories from suppliers in China.
If you want to create a unique private label product, the costs will be even higher. For example, most manufacturers in China charge you a few hundred dollars just for creating a prototype. If you don’t trust me, you can ask for a price on Alibaba.com.
In most cases, production may take 1-2 months depending on the nature of the products and quantity. Afterwards, it takes 2 weeks in shipment and custom clearance before arriving at Amazon warehouse.
This process indicates that it can take up to months before you’re paid for the inventory you bought.
Price war reduces profitability
Price war is ubiquitous on Amazon. Whenever a seller tries to attract more customers by lowering the prices, other sellers will be forced to cut their prices as well.
To avoid a net loss, you might have to cut the product costs. This results in lower product quality, negative feedback from customers and hence a drop in sales.
Apart from the intense competition, you have to deal with changing sales tax laws, category restrictions and Amazon policies.
In the worst case, Amazon might even ban your account permanently if you mistakenly violate some rules.
Is There an Easier & Better Alternative to Make Passive Income?
If you’re new to online business, you might wonder if there’s a better business model that doesn’t need initial capital and can do it as a side-hustle.
Of all the business models I’ve tried, affiliate marketing is the easiest and most rewarding so far.
In affiliate marketing, you can run your business almost with zero cost. Most importantly, you don’t need to invest in creating and developing any products.
Also, it is less time consuming since you don’t have to manage inventory or handle customer service.
You can enjoy a steady stream of passive income while going on vacation or working a full-time job.
Since the world is full of uncertainty, I’d always choose a business model that has the lowest risk.
But How Much Can You Earn in Affiliate Marketing?
