Sharon Rachel Levy Osbourne was born on October 9, 1952, in London, England. Sharon Arden grew up in a rock musician’s family as the daughter of music manager and concert producer Don Arden. She began working as a receptionist for her father as a teenager and later advanced in the company, working in promotions. Her life took a turn for the worse not long after her father took over management of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath in 1976.
Ozzy Osbourne, the band’s lead singer, had a dark, demonic persona and was known for his wild antics on and off stage. In fact, he was kicked out of the group in 1979 due to substance abuse issues. Sharon took him on as a client and became his manager at the time. This move caused a schism between her and her father, which took decades to heal.
Relationship With Ozzy
Sharon fell in love with Ozzy, but they had problems in the beginning, struggling with substance abuse and engaging in heated arguments. Their wedding day was July 4, 1982, but their darkest day was just around the corner. Ozzy was arrested in 1989 after attempting to strangle Sharon while under the influence of drugs. Following the incident, he spent several months in a mental health facility. Aimee (born in 1983), Kelly (born in 1984), and Jack (born in 1985) are the couple’s three children (b. 1985).
The Osbournes were a successful business team despite their personal problems. Sharon was instrumental in launching and sustaining Ozzy’s solo career, during which he sold millions of records. Other rock acts she managed included her daughter Kelly, the Smashing Pumpkins, and Lita Ford. Sharon also created the hugely successful Ozzfest, a touring concert festival featuring a variety of new and established heavy metal bands, as a concert producer.
Sharon negotiated a reality show featuring her family with the MTV cable network. The Osbournes, which resembled a twisted, curse-filled version of Ozzie and Harriet, premiered in the spring of 2002. The show captivated audiences, who were drawn in by shock-rocker Ozzy’s softer side as a devoted — if slightly spacey — father.
Fans also admired Sharon’s blunt and direct parenting style, and they couldn’t help but watch the two youngest Osbourne children battle their sibling rivalries. Their eldest daughter, Aimee, declined to take part in the four-season series.
‘The Sharon Osbourne Show,’ ‘The X Factor’
Osbourne furthered her television career by hosting her own daytime talk show. The Sharon Osbourne Show aired in the United States from 2003 to 2004, and was later revived in the United Kingdom. Over the next few years, Osbourne rose to prominence, serving as a judge on the British talent show The X Factor (2004-07) and authoring the incredibly candid, best-selling book Extreme: My Autobiography (2006).
‘America’s Got Talent’
Osbourne has found success as a reality television personality once more. She was a judge on America’s Got Talent from 2007 to 2012, and she appeared on The Celebrity Apprentice in 2010, competing against Joan Rivers, Cyndi Lauper, and Bret Michaels for a chance to win money for charity. Revenge, her debut novel, was published in the United Kingdom the same year.
‘The Talk,’ ‘The X Factor’
Osbourne also returned to American daytime television in 2010 as a co-host of The Talk. Osbourne left the show in 2021 after being accused of misconduct and racism.
She also returned to The X Factor as a judge/mentor in 2013 and 2016.
Sharon discovered she had colon cancer before the second season of The Osbournes began filming. Rather than canceling the show, Sharon agreed to let cameras film her treatment. Osbourne underwent surgery and eventually went into remission.
Following her recovery, she founded the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Foundation to assist others fighting the disease. Until 2005, the show followed the ups and downs of the eccentric but loving Osbourne family. Sharon was nominated for two Emmy Awards as a producer on the show.
Sharon and Ozzy announced their intention to divorce after 33 years of marriage in May 2016. According to reports, the split occurred after Sharon learned of Ozzy’s alleged affair with a celebrity hairstylist. However, two months later, the couple who had been through so much together decided to make their relationship work. Sharon announced their reconciliation on her talk show The Talk on July 25th. “It’s been very difficult… He’s very embarrassed and ashamed of his behavior,” she said. “I forgive, [but] it will take time to trust; but, you know, we’ve been together for 36 years, 34 of marriage, and it’s more than half of my life, and I just can’t imagine my life without him… even though he is a dog!”
Ozzy, who appeared on Good Morning America with their son Jack, also stated that the marriage was not over, calling it “just a bump in the road.” “It’s all back on track now.”
