During the past fiscal year, discount retailer Ross Stores’ same-store sales increased at their slowest pace on record. In addition to its back-to-school ad campaign, the retailer cut prices on 16,000 items such as backpacks and school supplies by as much as 50 percent.

According to the results, the company posted a 3.1 percent increase in August sales at its U.S. stores open at least a year — its biggest same-store sales gain since March.

Moreover, Global Insight’s new research will be featured in the new advertising campaign. 

According to the report, the retailer has been saving American families $2,500 annually since 2006, up 7.3 percent from $2,329 in 2004.
