Early Life

Priscilla Presley was born Priscilla Ann Wagner on May 24, 1945, to Ann Iversen and James Wagner, a U.S. Navy pilot, in Brooklyn, New York. When she was just six months old, her father died in a plane crash. Ann Iversen married Paul Beaulieu, a U.S. Air Force officer, who legally became little Priscilla’s father.

Because of her father’s job, young Priscilla had to move from one city to another every two to three years. She detested the challenges of moving to settle into a new city and a new environment.

In 1956, her father was again transferred to Austin, Texas. Just as Priscilla was settling in and making friends in the new place, the transfer order came, this time to Wiesbaden, Germany.

It was in Wiesbaden that Priscilla first met Elvis Presley, who in turn was serving in the 3rd Armoured Division of the United States Army. The two met at a party at Elvis’ house.

Elvis Presley was overwhelmed by Priscilla’s beauty and charm. Although she was ten years younger than him, she made a great impression on him. The two dated until his departure in March 1960.

The following four years marked Elvis Presley’s meteoric rise as a singer and actor. Although he was very busy with his professional obligations, the love between the two blossomed so much that Priscilla visited him in the U.S. in the summer of 1962.

In March 1963, she moved to America for good. There she attended Immaculate Conception High School in Memphis and lived with Presley’s parents. After graduating in June 1963, she moved in with Presley.

Marriage to Elvis Presley

Priscilla and Elvis married in Las Vegas, Nevada, eight years after they met. Lisa Marie, their daughter, was born the following year, in 1968. On October 9, 1973, they filed for divorce. Priscilla received, in addition to spousal and child support, $725,000, a 5% interest in Presley’s new publishing company, and half of the proceeds from the sale of their Beverly Hills home.

Despite their divorce in 1973, Elvis and Priscilla remained friends and raised Lisa Marie together until Elvis’ death in 1977.

In 1979, Presley was appointed executor of Elvis Presley’s estate, Graceland, and quickly established herself as a successful businesswoman, turning Elvis Presley Enterprises, of which she is chairwoman and president, into a profitable enterprise.

Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprise

After Presley’s death in 1977, Priscilla Presley served as executor for his sole heir, her daughter Lisa Marie. Lisa Marie’s bequest was limited to $1 million, as the Graceland estate required a whopping $500,000 in upkeep. Before Priscilla, the only option was to sell the Graceland estate due to financial constraints. She, however, did not bow to pressure and instead made good decisions.

She took a risk by turning the Graceland estate into a tourist attraction, and it paid off for her. The estate opened to the public on June 7, 1982, and was operated by Elvis Presley Enterprises, of which she was president. Since 2006, the museum has been a National Historic Landmark and is visited by more than 650,000 people each year. By the time Lisa Marie Presley was old enough to take over the estate in 1993, it was worth more than $100 million.

Under the leadership of Priscilla Presley, Elvis Presley Enterprises was expanded into a multi-million dollar corporation.

Perfume, Clothing, and Skincare Products

In the late 1990s, Presley launched a perfume line and developed a line of clothing and skin care products.

In 2002 she announced that she was going to co-produce a musical theater production titled Elvis and Priscilla, based on her romance with the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll”.

Movies and TV Shows

Priscilla had always been interested in modeling and dancing, but Presley’s aversion to his wife’s career in show business limited her activities to a hobby. After his death, however, she pursued a career as an actress.

‘Those Amazing Animals,’ a 1980 television show, was her first on-camera appearance. She was a co-host of the show. Only three years later, she got her first professional acting role in the second season of the series ‘The Fall Guy’ in the episode ‘Manhunter’.

In 1983, she starred alongside Michael Landon in the television movie ‘Love is Forever’. Viewers and producers alike praised her performance. Later, she played the role of Jenna Wade in the prime-time television soap opera ‘Dallas’. She embodied the character for five years, from 1982 to 1988.

In 1988, she starred alongside Leslie Nielson in ‘Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!”, the first film in ‘The Naked Gun’ series. She starred in the two subsequent sequels to the series, ‘The Naked Gun 212: The Smell of Fear’ (1991) and ‘Naked Gun 331: The Final Insult’ (1993). The films were all major box office successes.

In the 1990s, she appeared as a special guest in television shows such as ‘Melrose Palace’, ‘Touched by an Angel’ and ‘Spin City’. She participated in the reality show ‘Dancing with the Stars’.

In 2002, she announced her intention to co-produce Elvis and Priscilla, a musical theater production based on her romance with the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”

When she appeared as a contestant on the hit show Dancing with the Stars in 2008, Presley gained new fame, this time for her dancing abilities (season 6).

In December 2012, she made her pantomime debut in the musical comedy ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’. In the film, she starred alongside Warwick Davis. Two years later she returned to the Manchester Opera House to repeat her performance.

Books

Presley is a best-selling author. Her 1985 memoir, “Elvis and Me: The True Story of the Love Between Priscilla Presley and the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” was a “New York Times” bestseller and later adapted into a movie.

A penthouse in Century City, California, cost her just under $5 million in January 2021.

Boyfriend and Son

From 1984 to 2006, Presley shared a home with boyfriend and Italian screenwriter Marco Garibaldi. She and Garibaldi have a son, Navaronne, who they never married (b. 1987).
