MrBeast is a YouTube star, philanthropist, and entrepreneur from the United States. MrBeast, also known as Jimmy Donaldson, is well-known for his YouTube stunts in which he gives large sums of money away to friends or charities. He is widely regarded as the father of philanthropic YouTube stunt videos. He is also one of the world’s highest-paid YouTubers. 

Jimmy is said to reinvest the majority of his video earnings in video production. He now spends up to $300,000 per video, up from $10,000 a few years ago. His stunts are usually philanthropic in nature, such as giving money to strangers or adopting an entire shelter of rescue dogs.

His three main channels, MrBeast, MrBeast Shorts, and Beast Reacts, have a combined 90+ million subscribers as of this writing. MrBeast is technically the most-subscribed YouTube creator in the United States, based on his combined subscriber count. PewDiePie has 110 million subscribers on his main channel alone, making him the most-subscribed individual creator in the world.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Jimmy Donaldson was born on May 7, 1998, in Greenville, North Carolina, and graduated from Greenville Christian Academy in 2016.

When he was 12 years old, he began uploading videos to YouTube under the username “MrBeast6000.” He briefly attended college before dropping out to pursue a full-time YouTube career.

He primarily posted video game commentary, reaction videos, and funny compilations in his early videos.

Success

Jimmy rose to prominence following the release of the video “Counting to 100,000” in 2017. He spent 44 hours counting to 100,000 in the video. The video went on to be viewed over 21 million times.

He then posted a video in which he counted to 200,000. Other notable achievements include reading the dictionary, scripting the “Bee Movie,” ubering across America, saying “Logan Paul” 100,000 times, and watching the awful Jake Paul music video “It’s Every Day Bro” on repeat for 10 hours.

His YouTube accounts now have over 90 million subscribers and have generated over 10 billion video views. Most average videos have been viewed over 20 million times. He has 12 million Instagram followers, 9 million Twitter followers, and 13 million TikTok followers.

He works with PewDiePie and has purchased billboard and radio advertisements to help him gain more subscribers than T-Series. At the 2019 Shorty Awards, he was nominated for Vlogger of the Year. He received the Breakout Creator award. He was nominated for a Kids’ Choice Award in the category of Favorite Male Social Star in 2020. He was named YouTuber of the Year in 2020. He was also named Creator of the Year at the 2020 Streamy Awards.

MrBeast gained 400,000 new subscribers and had over 80 million video views in just one week in July 2020. During that time, he was the 20th most popular personality on YouTube.

Stunt Philanthropy

In 2018, Jimmy really hit it out of the park with his “stunt philanthropy.” In one of his most popular videos from that time, MrBeast donated $1,000 to strangers. Millions of fans quickly subscribed to his channels, which led to him giving away hundreds of thousands of dollars and even a million dollars.

In December 2019, he posted a video challenging people to hold their hands on a $1 million cash pile. The last person to take their hand off the pile received the money.

Team Trees

Jimmy and former NASA engineer Mark Rober launched the #TeamTrees fundraising challenge in October 2019. Within three months, they hoped to raise $20 million for the Arbor Day Foundation. Within two months, they had surpassed the $20 million goal, and as of this writing, the project had raised $23 million and planted over 7 million trees. When they reach their goal of planting 20 million trees, they will have removed an estimated 1.6 million tons of carbon from the atmosphere, as well as 116 thousand tons of chemical air pollution.

Mobile Gaming

MrBeast will release “Finger on the App,” a multiplayer endurance game, in June 2020. The game’s concept was actually quite simple. Users from all over the world had to keep their finger on their phone screen while using the app. The last person to remove it wins $25,000.

Awards

MrBeast has been nominated for a number of prestigious awards throughout his career. At the 2019 Streamy Awards, he was named Breakout Creator. He was nominated for Ensemble Cast and Creator of the Year the same year.

Jimmy will launch the “Beast Burger” in December 2020 in collaboration with over 300 restaurants across the United States. The MrBeast Burger app quickly rose to the top of the Apple App Store’s free app charts the day after it was released. He has sold over a million burgers to date.

Clothing Line

MrBeast’s merchandise line is his second-largest source of income, after YouTube. He sells t-shirts, hoodies, hats, water bottles, mouse pads, backpacks, and other items on shopmrbeast.com. 

Charity

MrBeast has donated or raised tens of millions of dollars for various charities over the years. His stunt videos have raised funds for homeless shelters, the Veterans Army Wounded Warrior Program, Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and a Los Angeles animal shelter. A December 2018 video, for example, donated $100,000 in clothing and other items to homeless shelters.

Jimmy joined forces with NASA engineer and YouTuber Mark Rober to launch the #TeamTrees foundation in October 2019. The goal was to raise $20 million for the Arbor Day Foundation over the next three months. For every dollar raised, the organization would plant one tree. Hundreds of YouTubers came together to support the cause. #TeamTrees had raised $4 million within 24 hours of its launch. They had raised more than $20 million by December. They have raised more than $22 million as of this writing.

Personal Life

Jimmy has Crohn’s disease, which is an inflammatory bowel disease. In ninth grade, he was diagnosed with the disease. He has spoken about his long battle with the debilitating condition over the years. Prior to being diagnosed, he was sick nearly every day and had lost 30 pounds over the summer due to the extreme discomfort. MrBeast follows a fairly strict diet in addition to medication.

Girlfriend

Jimmy began dating Maddy Spidell in June 2019. They met through Twitter.

MrBeast’s girlfriend, Maddy, was revealed for the first time in a February 2020 video titled “Surprising My Girlfriend With 100,000 Roses For Valentines Day.” As of this writing, that video has received over 50 million views. Maddy has since appeared in a number of other MrBeast videos, including “I Adopted EVERY Dog in a Dog Shelter” and “I Spent 50 Hours in Solitary Confinement.”
