San Diego Chargers

The San Diego Chargers selected him in the second round, 38th overall, as the second inside linebacker in the draft behind Alec Ogletree. “It’s the ideal situation. My parents are welcome to come and watch and I can go back home, after all, this is San Diego,” Te’o said on draft day. Until Jaylon Smith was selected in the 2016 NFL Draft, he was the highest drafted Notre Dame linebacker since Demetrius DuBose in 1993.

Te’o signed a four-year contract with the Chargers on May 10, 2013. The contract was worth just over $5 million and included a signing bonus of $2,141,768 and over $3.1 million in guaranteed money. He is the second Chargers linebacker of Polynesian descent, following Junior Seau.
