Early Life

Gustav Elijah Ahr was born on November 1, 1996, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to Liza Womack and Karl Johan Ahr. He was born into a comfortable family, with both of his parents working as teachers. His father was a university professor, and his mother taught in a public school. He had an older brother as well.

However, his parents’ education did not guarantee Gustav a comfortable life. He witnessed discord between his parents as a child. This had a negative impact on his mental health. Gustav’s parents moved to Long Island, New York, shortly after his birth, which was a new place for him. Gustav already struggled with socializing, so this move was difficult for him.

Gustav was 14 years old when his parents divorced. As a result, he became more introverted. He had difficulty conversing with people in person and preferred to interact with his online friends.

Although he excelled academically, he disliked going to school because he was an introvert. He first attended ‘Lindell Elementary School,’ then ‘Long Beach High School.’ His teachers thought he was a “gifted” student who received good grades despite his poor attendance.

He eventually dropped out of high school and completed his diploma through a few online courses. He also took a few computer classes. He had developed a strong interest in music by that point and had begun uploading his work to ‘YouTube’ and ‘SoundCloud.’

He moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17 to pursue a career in music.

Career

In Los Angeles, he went by the alias “Lil Peep.” He was influenced by underground acts such as ‘Seshhollowwaterboyz’ and rapper iLoveMakonnen. Within a few months of moving to Los Angeles, he ran out of savings and spent a few nights without a roof over his head.

He had many social media friends in New York, and he began meeting them one by one as soon as he arrived in Los Angeles. Things improved after he made contact with a music producer named JGRXXN and a few rappers named Ghostemane and Craig Xen. He also spent the majority of his time at their residences. Lil Peep joined the ‘Schemaposse’ collective after only a few months.

Lil Peep released his debut mixtape, ‘Lil Peep Part One,’ on ‘SoundCloud’ in 2015, with the help of his new group. The album received lukewarm reviews and was only played 4,000 times in its first week. However, as the number of “hits” increased, it gradually gained traction.

He followed up his debut mixtape with an EP called ‘Feelz’ and another mixtape called ‘Live Forever.’ He did not achieve widespread success right away because his sound was too distinct and did not fit into a specific genre. Punk, dream pop, and trap music were all influences. Most listeners and critics disliked the lyrics because they were overly expressive and gloomy.

Over time, ‘Star Shopping,’ a single from his debut mixtape, became a major success. It was also a surprise success in underground hip-hop circles. However, after the release of his single ‘Beamer Boy,’ he achieved true mainstream success. The song’s enormous success prompted him to perform his first concert with his band ‘Schemaposse’ in Tucson, Arizona.

As more of the group’s rappers achieved success, the group disbanded. Their friendship remained intact, and they occasionally collaborated on each other’s future projects.

Lil Peep went on to form another rap group called ‘Gothboiclique.’ In mid-2016, he released his debut full-length mixtape, ‘Crybaby,’ with them. When asked about the recording process, Lil Peep stated that the entire album was completed in three days and that, due to a lack of funds, his voice was recorded on a cheap microphone.

Lil Peep’s mainstream success began with this single. His popularity grew after the release of another mixtape, ‘Hellboy.’ His songs have received millions of “views” and “hits” on YouTube and SoundCloud. Two songs from ‘Hellboy,’ titled ‘OMFG’ and ‘Girls,’ were huge hits.

When the band ‘Mineral’ accused him of stealing some of their music for his song ‘Hollywood Dreaming,’ he was dragged into a minor controversy. Lil Peep, on the other hand, claimed it was his way of paying tribute to the band and their music.

Lil Peep released his debut album, ‘Come Over When You’re Sober,’ on August 15, 2017. The album debuted at number 168 on the Billboard 200 chart and peaked at number 38. Lil Peep announced a promotional tour for the album, but tragedy struck during the tour, and he died.

Following his death, several of his unreleased songs became public. ‘Awful Things,’ ‘Spotlight,’ ‘Dreams & Nightmares,’ ‘4 Gold Chains,’ and ‘Falling Down’ were among his posthumous hits. After his death, his songs were acquired by ‘Columbia Records.’

Personal Life & Girlfriends

Lil Peep had been dating Instagram mega-star Arzaylea Rodriguez for about two months at the time of his untimely death. They met at one of his Los Angeles show stops, and she left the tour the night before he overdosed on Xanax and fentanyl.

Arzaylea made no secret of their romantic relationship on her Instagram account, which has nearly 500,000 followers, but she has since deleted the posts.

In 2017, Lil Peep dated Annabella Avery (Bella) Thorne, a 22-year-old actress, singer, and former model. The stunning beauty is well-known for her roles in the TV shows My Own Worst Enemy, Big Love, and the Disney Channel series Shake It Up.

Bella and Lil Peep were spotted kissing in Los Angeles in September 2017, just months before his death. Her grief was addressed on social media, with one tweet reading, “You deserved more out of life, Peep. Life did not honor your greatness.”

You may have heard that Lil Peep was bisexual, which is correct. The rapper announced the news on Twitter in August 2017, but as far as we know, he has never been in a public relationship.

With nearly 23,000 likes and 7,000+ retweets, his announcement about his sexuality drew an outpouring of support.

Death

Lil Peep had previously stated that he had had a difficult childhood and had always been a loner. He was depressed most of the time and got the tattoo “CryBaby” on his face. Even after he grew up and became famous, he was unable to overcome his depression, which he frequently expressed through his lyrics.

His manager discovered him dead in the tour bus on November 15, 2017. He was scheduled to perform in Tucson, Arizona. He had used cannabis, cocaine, and a variety of other drugs.

At around 5 p.m., he had gone to take a nap on the bus. His manager checked on him twice and found that he was breathing normally.

The manager discovered Lil Peep had stopped breathing during the third attempt to wake him up. A thorough investigation revealed that the death was caused by a drug overdose.
