Jameson had only a few years with her mother before she died of skin cancer on February 20, 1976, just before Jameson turned two.

Despite being a gifted ballerina and a frequent pageant winner, Jameson’s adolescence was a difficult and destructive time for the rising starlet. She was sexually assaulted several times and developed a serious drug problem. She left home at the age of 16 to live with her boyfriend.

The following year, she used pliers to remove her braces from her teeth and a fake ID to land her first job as an exotic dancer. Jameson began modeling for adult magazines after being discovered by a Penthouse scout. Around this time, she also changed her surname from “Massoli” to “Jameson,” a name she chose for its boozy and rebellious connotations.

“How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale,” Jameson’s best-selling autobiography, was published in 2004. It was an instant success, spending six weeks on The New York Times Best-Seller list.

Jameson’s success piqued the interest of Playboy Enterprises, which bought ClubJenna in 2006. With more than $30 million in revenue, the company has risen to the ranks of the Fortune 500. Following the acquisition, Playboy launched the Club Jenna Channel, a pay-per-view channel starring the prominent starlet.
