Howard Schultz is a businessman and author from the United States. He was born to Fred and Elaine Schultz and grew up with his siblings Ronnie and Michael in the CanarsieBayview Houses of the New York City Housing Authority. 

He was a natural athlete and attended Northern Michigan University on an athletic scholarship. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications. 

He began his career at Xerox Corporation as a salesman and then rose to sales representative. He was hired as a marketing director at Starbucks.  During an important trip to Milan, Italy, he noticed that there were coffee shops on every street that not only served excellent espresso, but also served as meeting places. He intended to bring this idea to the United States. 

When the owners of Starbucks turned him down, he went into business for himself and opened the ‘IlGiornale’ shop. Two years later, Schultz bought the Starbucks retail business from the original Starbucks management. IlGiornale was renamed Starbucks and he quickly spread it throughout the United States. 

He also bought the NBA’s Seattle SuperSonics, but sold the team to Clayton Bennett after a few years. Schultz has received several awards for his business acumen.
