Early Life

Robbert van de Corput was born on January 7, 1988 in Breda, the Netherlands, to Anneke and Cor van de Corput. His parents work with a foundation that assists young artists in dealing with contracts, managers, and record labels.

Robbert began taking piano lessons and attending music school when he was four years old.

At the age of twelve, he began performing as a hip-hop DJ and recording his first electro songs. He was heavily influenced by the Breda-born DJ and producer Tisto, and he rose to prominence by competing in various local DJ competitions.

As hip-hop became an underground scene, Hardwell shifted his style to commercial electronic dance music, and at the age of 14, he signed a record deal with Dutch producer duo Klubbheads for ‘Digidance.’ Three weeks later, he released his first official two-disc album, ‘Bubbling Beats 1,’ and toured the Netherlands, performing in a number of dance clubs.

In 2006, he released his first official single, ‘Play It Around,’ which was well received in German clubs. He combined his own style with the most popular musical genres for the track.

He co-wrote the song ‘Never Knew Love,’ which was released at the end of 2007 and became his first Top 40 hit on the official German single-charts, peaking at No. 32. His remixes of Gregor Salto’s and Chuckie’s ‘Toys Are,’ which he collaborated on with Dutch DJ and producer R3hab, and ‘You Do Not Love Me,’ by Sidney Samson and Skitzofrenix, both topped the dance charts for weeks.

He created a mash-up of ‘Be’ by Steve Angello and Laidback Luke and ‘Show Me Love’ by Robin S., which was released in December 2008 as an official cover version of ‘Show Me Love.’ He gained more exposure in the Netherlands after performing on stage with Tisto, after which he produced the official anthem of the ‘Dancevalley Festival’ under the title ‘Twilight Zone.’

In 2010, he launched his own record label, ‘Revealed Recordings,’ which served as a springboard for new electronic dance music artists. Each year, he released a compilation album containing his new songs and tracks released by the label, and for its fifth anniversary, he released 100 of the most popular tracks chosen by fans on his website.

In 2011, he signed a distribution deal with the German record label ‘Kontor Records.’ In March of that year, he launched his one-hour podcast ‘Hardwell On Air,’ which is broadcast on Slam! in the Netherlands and Sirius XM in the United States.

In 2011, he co-produced the track ‘Zero 76,’ named after the telephone prefix ‘076’ of their hometown Breda. The single ‘Cobra’ topped dance charts around the world and was chosen as the official anthem of the ‘Energy, The Network’ festival, one of Europe’s largest indoor events.

He followed up his success with ‘Encoded,’ his first major release that dominated the festival scene, putting him among the world’s top DJs. The song ‘Spaceman,’ which was released on July 31, 2012, sold over 500,000 copies in the United States and was one of the songs that helped to establish the Big room house genre.

He performed at a number of festivals in 2012, including Creamfields, Electric Zoo Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, and Nature One. He also performed at the Tomorrowland festival, and the video of his performance has received over ten million views.

He and his DJ colleagues and best friends Dannic and Dyro, dubbed the ‘Dutch-House-Mafia,’ began 2013 with a bus tour through Canada in January, followed by a tour of North America that summer. ‘I Am Hardwell’, his first global tour, began in April.

In 2011, he headlined Tomorrowland and collaborated with the DJ duo W&W on the single ‘Jumper,’ which became the year’s biggest club hit. Later that year, he catered to his growing fan base of big-room house with ‘Countdown’ and released ‘Dare You’ with American singer Matthew Koma, finishing the year as the youngest DJ to top the DJ Mag chart.

In January 2014, he released the documentary ‘I Am Hardwell,’ which had been in the works for two and a half years and focused on his most successful moments. In 2014, he performed alongside Tisto at the Tomorrowland festival in Belgium, where he maintained his position as the top DJ.

On January 23, 2015, he released his debut studio album ‘United We Are,’ from which the single ‘Sally,’ released one week earlier, became his first song to enter the German single charts. He released the documentary ‘I Am Hardwell – Living The Dream’ in October of that year. He lost his top spot on the DJ Mag chart the same year.

In 2016, he gave his final ‘I Am Hardwell’ performances and released the seventh installment of the ‘Hardwell-presents-Revealed’ compilations, but he fell one spot to No. 3 on the Top DJ list. In 2017, he released three parts of his ‘Hardwell & Friends EP’ and announced the second hour of his ‘Hardwell On Air’ podcast, titled ‘Off The Record.’

He released the song “Being Alive” on January 4, 2019. Jguar’s vocals can be heard on the track, which is a follow-up to his 2012 single “Apollo.”

On October 18, 2019, he released the big room house track Left Right featuring Deorro and Makj featuring Fatman Scoop.

Prior to the festival, it was rumored that Hardwell would close Ultra Miami 2022 as a special guest. Hardwell officially returned to the dance scene on March 27, closing the festival with a new style of music called future rave or future techno.

At the same time, his website was updated with new tour dates for his upcoming album “Rebels Never Die.” The following Friday, April 1, Hardwell released the first two singles from the album, “BROKEN MIRROR” and “INTO THE UNKNOWN”. Rebels Never Die was released in 2022, with a new track appearing every two weeks.
