Early Life

Emily Riedel was born on July 4, 1988. As a student, she always wanted to earn money to pay her fees and continue her studies. She started dredging — a profession she learned from her father, Steve Riedel, who also appears on Bering Sea Gold — to pay for school because she initially had her sights set on music.

“I wanted to be an opera singer and was raised in Alaska and I would always go back to Alaska to fund my operatic expeditions,” she shared.

Emily loves to sing opera, and she’s good at it, but it’s not enough to pay the bills. At the time she was attending college, she had to work to pay for her education, and it was not possible for her to pay for school and pursue an opera career at the same time.

She needed a job, and when her friend Zeke offered her a job in Nome, Alaska, she took it. She worked in a gold dredging operation. That’s how she got involved in gold-digging for a living.

TV Career

Emily Riedel chose mining only as a summer internship for her master’s degree, but she was interested in it. She later worked as a deckhand at the mine.

She enjoys her job so much that she continues to do it. She was also very fortunate that the Discovery Channel approached the crew. The channel approached her for its program titled ‘Bering Sea Gold’. Through this program, she gained some popularity. This gave her career its first boost.

Since then, she has been active in the TV industry, and a decade later, she continues to appear on television.

She has also participated in shows such as ‘Gold Rush: The Dirt’ and ‘Expedition Unknown’. She has also appeared on talk shows where she has talked about the ups and downs of her life. All of this was the result of her success with ‘Bering Sea Gold’. She became very popular on social media and gained a large number of followers.

Her involvement on the media platforms allowed her to pursue her interests as well. As the first female owner and captain of a dredge, she chose this path. Not only did she explore the Northwest, but she also named her vessel Eroica. With her experienced crew, she also excavated rich mining areas.

Personal Life & Husband

Emily Riedel met her now-husband, Alex Trokey, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. She commemorated the first anniversary of their initial meeting on Instagram in April 2021.

“One year ago we had our first date at my Homer cabin in the midst of pandemic madness,” Emily wrote in the caption of her post. “Thanks to my brother Paul for being a one-time matchmaker… Also, thank God for this gent.”

Emily Riedel gave birth to her first baby girl in March 2022. She shared the news with her Instagram followers, writing in a post, “We made a human! She’s coming into the world in March. We’re so happy and excited to be parents soon.”
