CAbi Clothing Reviews – Scam or Legit MLM? Exposed!

Are you looking for a CAbi Clothing review? But you may wonder if it is a scam.

You are not alone in your confusion about multilevel marketing. The prospect is certainly enticing. The three most important things in life are independence, freedom and money. On the other hand, you have doubts about them.

This review of CAbi Clothing is comprehensive and (hopefully) useful in forming your own opinion of the brand. Is it too good to be true? Could it be another CAbi Clothing hoax?

As a disclaimer, I’m not affiliated with CAbi Clothing. It means I’m not paid to write this review. So you can rest assured that you will get an honest and unbiased review from me.

At the end of this review, I’ll also tell you the best alternative to CAbi Clothing that has enabled me to make a full-time passive income online.

What Is CAbi?

CAbi is a women’s clothing company that sells its products exclusively through direct sales. “cabi” is an acronym for “Carol Anderson, Invited.”

in 1977, Carol Anderson made her first sale to Nordstrom after starting her clothing business with her husband Jan Janura in their garage.

Subsequently, she was able to make a living selling to upscale boutiques and department stores for a full quarter century. CAbi as we know it today was founded in 2002 by Kimberly Inskeep, Carol and ten of her friends.

CAbi currently has operations in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom and generates $250 million annually (2016).

How Do You Become a cabi Stylist?

Apply on the Cabi website if you want to become a Cabi stylist.

They offer weekly Leading Fashion Forward events where you can learn more about the company and get your questions answered before you even apply.

After your application is reviewed, you will need to take an online training course and decide on an inventory. New stylists are welcome at cabi year-round, but the selection of merchandise available to you will depend on the season in which you apply.

You can also contact a cabi stylist directly.

You can contact a cabi stylist locally by visiting the website, scrolling to the bottom of the page, and filling out the form there. To get a better idea of how it all works, you can either host your own cabi Fashion Experience or attend one of the stylists’ events.

What Kind of Training Does CAbi Offer?

After you apply to cabi and purchase inventory, you’ll gain access to cabi’s business and marketing resources and online courses. In addition to online training and support from your team leader and home office, you’ll also have the opportunity to attend Scoop.

Twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, live, multi-day events called cabi’s Scoop are held to introduce the new collection and provide intensive training to the company’s stylists.

Okay, let me rewind a bit.

To become a Cabi stylist, you don’t have to have any experience in fashion. When you work with Cabi, you’ve access to extensive product and trend training on every piece in the collection, so you can confidently style your clients from head to toe.

Cabi is capable of putting on a dazzling fashion show that will leave you breathless with its intensity. Moreover, the enthusiasm and energy of the stylists and the cabi leadership team are palpable.

Attending one of cabi’s live webinars is a great way to learn more about the company and its culture. Katie Malone (President & Chief Marketing Officer) and Kat Woodside (Senior Vice President & General Manager) and I just completed one (Chief Design Officer).

How Much Does it Cost to Be a CAbi Stylist?

There are three types of inventory available to new stylists in Cabi. Included in all three packages are training, a website and a starter kit that includes a stylist planner, fit guide, show script cards, lookbooks and Notion magazines.

The $1,250 Initial Collection is the first level. This is a more compact assortment of the new fall or spring clothing. The retail price for this set is $5,000, and if you sell it at the end of the season, you can expect to make about $1,750. You can only purchase this set during your freshman year and at the beginning of university.

For an additional $2,500, you will have access to the full collection. The full collection includes garments and accessories from all seven categories. The retail price of this collection is $10,000.

With the money you earn from selling your end-of-season stock, you will have more than enough to buy the patterns for the next season.

You can only become a Digital Stylist (the third option) during your introductory season. This $250 service is typically used when an employee is hired as a Stylist after the normal inventory ordering period has expired.

When someone signs up as a Digital Stylist, they gain access to their team leader’s inventory, in addition to being able to sell through their own website and Front Row. They have $250 in the bank to use for next year’s products.

For each of the three plans, the stylist receives three garments at a 50% discount, giving them a complete Cabi costume to wear when selling on the street. As a stylist, you can choose to pay in full immediately or spread your payments over a longer period of time.

Cabi Clothing Compensation Plan

You have to invest money in CAbi before you can make money with it (and yourself). For $2,570, you can get a full seasonal line of commodity samples to use as you see fit.

That’s a lot of money, but less than some multi-level marketing companies like LulaRoe. CAbi claims the high price is justified by wanting to attract only the most dedicated members.

You should know that it’s an annual expense that fluctuates depending on the time of year. However, the point is to sell last season’s inventory at a discount and invest the proceeds in the current season.

If you sell 70% of your seasonal inventory at a 50% discount, as recommended by CAbi, you will realise $3000. That should cover the price of the garments and other incidentals like gas, parking, etc.

Payment depends on a percentage of sales achieved.

Unlike many other multi-level marketing companies, CAbi does not have meaningless achievements and titles like “Emerald”, “Diamond”, “Black Diamond”, “Blue, Pink or Vanilla Diamond” and so on.

Simply put, you get a commission on all your sales (between 20% and 33%) and you also get a percentage of what they sell.

Downline Commissions

1st Tier Downline – 3% (additional 5% if you qualify for the Team Builder Bonus explained below)

2nd Tier Downline – 5%

3rd Tier Downline – 3%

4th Tier Downline – 2%

First, you will receive a minimum commission of 20% on all sales you make as an individual. However, if you can sell $2,500 every month, this percentage increases to 25%.

Team Builder Bonus

  • If you and your 1st tier downline generate monthly sales of $24,000, your personal commission rate increases by 8% to 33%. And.
  • In addition to the 3% commission you already receive from 1st Tier sales, you get another 5% if you have a 2nd Tier.

And finally, for every new stylist who signs up, CAbi will make a modest business loan to a female entrepreneur in a poor country, in partnership with Opportunity International and World Vision.

If none of that appeals to you, you can also try your luck with online surveys at sites like surveyjunkie.com. You can use Inbox Dollars to earn something while playing games, watching movies and exploring the Internet.

You will not get rich or make money while you sleep with these activities, but they are a good start if you want to make money online.

However, if you want to make money online without doing any work and thus bring more peace into your life, then you should consider starting an online business.

Cabi Clothing Income Disclosure Statement

We’ve looked at Cabi’s salary structure and the different ways to earn money, so the next question is: To what extent can you cash in?

According to Cabi Clothing’s latest financial report,

  • The top 1% of Cabi Stylists who met seasonal sales minimums earned an average of $244,660.
  • The top 10% of Cabi Stylists who met seasonal sales minimums earned an average of $101,003.
  • The top 50% of Cabi Stylists who met seasonal sales minimums earned an average of $42,864.

Please note that this does not apply to every Cabi Stylist. Only those who have reached a certain sales quota will be displayed.

You can read the full revenue disclosure here; at the bottom of the page it’s revealed that 29% of stylists earned as much or more than the average annual commissions.

Unless I’m misunderstanding the facts, this means that the other 71% of Cabi stylists who may have made money aren’t included in the income figures above.

Also, the income figures don’t include the expenses that are essential to keep in mind as you expand your Cabi business. As a business owner, I understand the thrill of adding up profits, but I also know that this isn’t an accurate reflection of reality.

You can get a more accurate picture of your income by including all of your expenses, including taxes.

Is The CAbi Clothing Scam or Legit?

How many times have you rolled your eyes when someone presented you with a pyramid “opportunity”?

I’ll be honest and say I am not a fan of multi-level marketing. In the hands of the right person, they can have profound impact. However, for most of us, they are more of a nuisance.

You are presented with your ideal lifestyle, and it’s entirely up to you to make it happen. You just have to learn to play the system, they say. Is that true?

Most people’s dreams are shattered when they encounter rejection or fail to get a promised answer. To be honest, building an MLM business is not easy.

This is where things start to go bad. As a rule, there are two types of people.

There are both self-promoters and system-promoters (it must be a scam).

The first group believes that if they do not succeed, it is their own fault because the system must work (as their upline promised).

Blaming someone else when it is not their fault is a heavy burden. The fact is that success in multi-level marketing requires a special kind of person with an unusual personality and, in most cases, unusual circumstances.

This may not appeal to everyone, and that’s fine. Not everyone has what it takes to be an engineer, a paramedic, or a car salesman.

The second type of mistake places the responsibility on society as a whole. It was obviously a scam, because it did not work.

In the middle are people who have come to terms with the fact that sales and recruitment are not among their talents.

However, there is still a lot of resentment towards MLMs, so many people think they are scams.

So is it a scam?

Obviously, “no” is the correct answer.

But “an attempt to deceive a person or organization by gaining their confidence” is the definition of a fraud on Wikipedia.

CAbi could be a scam if the person trying to recruit you to the company is telling you things that aren’t true in order to gain your trust and ultimately get you to sign up (and pay the $2570 fee).

However, this means NOT that CAbi is fraudulent. Basically, it means that further investigation is in order (beyond what your CAbi distributor tells you).

Don’t doubt yourself and follow your gut. If something seems implausible, it probably is. But that doesn’t make it any less entertaining. It merely suggests that the thing in question isn’t as good as its proponents would have you believe.

Is CAbi Clothing a Pyramid Scheme?

This question requires a little more thought. If you want to keep your Ponzi scheme from going out of business legally, you need to play by the rules.

Here is an excerpt from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s website, “Not all multilevel marketing schemes are legal. A multilevel marketing system may be acceptable if your earnings are directly tied to the number of products or services you sell to the general public.

You can assume this is not the case if your compensation depends on the number of people you bring into your business and the amount they buy from you. Perhaps this is a “pyramid” scheme

Although the structure you create and the way the compensation is paid resembles a Ponzi scheme, you can be sure that CAbi operates within the law and is not a Ponzi scheme.

The alternative is to participate in paid Internet surveys through services like Survey Junkie, as mentioned earlier.

Another service that pays you for activities such as searching the Internet, visiting websites and watching videos is Inbox Dollars.

A legitimate Internet business is more viable than a “pyramid” MLM system that relies on recruiting new members.

Your goal is to build a passive income stream through your online efforts, and much like a multi-level marketing business (but online), this requires a steady stream of people who might benefit from your services.

CAbi Clothing Review

The history of CAbi and the nature of the business opportunity were briefly discussed. But the customer is the lifeblood of any business, and what they really want is affordable, quality clothing and friendly, helpful service.

CAbi has a wide selection that is renewed every season.

Tops, bottoms, dresses, sweaters, jackets, cardigans, shoes, jewelry and accessories like belts and scarves are available for sale and purchase.

After inquiring what others think about Cabi Clothing, I can say that opinions are divided. Probably the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Who knows if I (the reviewer) or you (the reader) would be here if Cabi sold cheap, poorly made and quickly worn clothing. But there would be a large number of unhappy customers and many bad comments. But that’s not the situation at all.

Customer service (which I’ll get to in a moment) is often blamed for the bad reviews, not the quality of the clothing itself.

Some dissatisfied customers, however, are to be expected from a company that takes in hundreds of millions of dollars a year. Probably nothing they’d be particularly proud of, but I imagine it’s difficult for CAbi to run a company that size (and still keep everyone happy).

Even if the tastes of people with unlimited income do not match CAbi’s, you do not have to worry if you want to pursue a career as an emcee or stylist.

Popular style bloggers like Paulina Mo and Jenn Rager have a lot of good things to say about CAbi in addition to reviews (examples below).

It is important to know that there are also negative opinions.

It’s possible that the reviewer’s bad experience is limited to a single retailer, but the review itself makes it sound like the return process was troublesome.

Additional explanation and new data can be found in the discussion area. Diane comments on the return process as follows: “As of OCT 2020, I can say from experience that the return and refund process is quite simple. I have received prompt refunds or exchanges after using the prepaid shipping label provided by my stylist.”

The pricing is completely arbitrary. Certainly it is not the cheapest option. But what is a fair price is a matter of opinion.

On the other hand, there are people who shop only on clearance and never spend more than $40 or $50 on a piece of clothing (except maybe a jacket). Some people consider a $150 top to be unimpressive.

It’s important to understand your clientele. And even if CAbi’s prices are a little higher than the norm, it’s the service and ease of use that will ultimately win over your customers.

Is CAbi Clothing For You?

I believe that finding fulfillment in one’s work is important for success in any field. By this I don’t mean that one cannot be successful in a field that bores one. But if you despise the activity itself, that’s hardly success, is it?

On the other hand, if we’re doing something we don’t enjoy, we’re unlikely to persevere until we achieve our goals.

We can only pretend to do nothing. But we’ll never become masters at it.

In multi-level marketing, the same is true. I’ve said before that many people blame themselves when they fail in this industry.

But the truth is that they simply don’t enjoy it, and that’s perfectly fine.

Most people would rather not spend their free time on weekends and weekends selling, let alone recruiting (for a “pyramid” company).

Find something that really excites you instead of slogging through something that doesn’t interest you.

CAbi might be just right for you if you’re an extrovert, have sales experience, and enjoy talking to a variety of people.

It also helps if you’ve a special position that puts you in contact with a lot of people (for example, if you lead a yoga or dance class).

Only you can decide what’s best for your own situation. Buying CABI is a big deal, so make sure you really need it before you spend the money.

Sometime in the 1990s, I built an Amway business for a few years before I realized I wasn’t enjoying it. As someone who’d spent nearly a full decade in the field, I finally had to admit to myself that this job wasn’t a good fit for me.

I should have done something I enjoyed more. I found true joy in building profitable web-based businesses.

To return to my starting point: I believe the most important factor for success is pride in one’s work. Even if it’s demanding, it should be fun. Even if there are other things one would rather do.

CAbi is a good option if you enjoy networking and selling to others. Also, if you claim to have a “love of fashion,” that’s even more true.

If that’s not the case, and you’re the kind of person who values solitude as much as spending time with others (like me), then you should consider starting an internet business

You can build a respectable career from the comfort of your home (or any other place) by delving into any field or topic that interests you, without ever having to sell anything or hire anyone.

What Are the Methods for Selling cabi Clothing?

Stylists at Cabi have a range of options for selling the company’s merchandise, allowing them to customise their careers to fit their individual schedules, interests and financial goals.

1. Cabi Fashion Experience

You’ve probably been to a pop-up party before, but cabi Fashion Experiences are another matter entirely. For a cabi Fashion Experience, a stylist travels to the host’s home to showcase the upcoming winter or spring collection.

They show the seven categories and the different ways the items within can be styled. Combined with refreshments and champagne, trying on the clothes after the presentation is always a good thing.

2. Front Row Virtual Shows

When the COVID pandemic broke out, cabi stylists still had the ability to host virtual parties using the app’s Front Row. With this unique software, cabi stylists can showcase any ensemble by having models wear it for short video clips.

As customers watch the runway presentations, they can “like” the merchandise they like. During breaks, the stylist can hand out giveaways, make small talk or answer questions about the brand. If visitors see something they like, they can buy it at the end of the show.

3. Online Sales

When you sign up as a cabi Stylist, you get access to a personalized e-commerce site where you can sell cabi apparel 24/7. Your business card, catalog, social media presence and emails can promote your website.

4. The cabi Tap App

I’ll be completely honest: I’m completely obsessed with this app. The job of a cab stylist is to promote the use of the app among passengers.

When they do, they can view the collection, save their favorites, compare the new products to those they’ve purchased in the past, and even make impulse purchases! I’m not very good at putting together interesting outfits, so I really appreciate the way pieces from different seasons and collections can be combined.

5. Private Shopping Consults and Sessions

Customers who prefer to shop from the comfort of their own home can do so by arranging for a sales representative to visit them (or have the shop come to them). A Cabi stylist can also arrange a private online shopping experience upon request.

6. Curated by cabi

Their version of a monthly subscription service is called “Curated by cabi” Throughout the season, you can count on a steady stream of commissions from the monthly shipments that cabi stylists send to their customers.

The merchandise in these shipments is selected by the stylists based on the customer’s preferences and budget.

Pros of Cabi Clothing

  • You have an extensive and diverse collection. Whether you buy or sell CAbi, you will not be limited to a single product line.
  • CAbi has been in business since 2002 and continues to thrive. Carol Andersen (the original co-founder of CAbi) has been in the fashion industry since the mid 1970s. While I am not sure to what extent she is still involved today, she would have shared her extensive expertise with CAbi’s current founders, including CEO Lynne Coté.
  • They always have something new for existing customers with seasonal upgrades to their collection. This is critical for recurring business because “getting a new customer is five to twenty-five times more expensive than keeping an existing customer.”
  • The CAbi Foundation and its support for businesswomen in developing countries.

Cons of Cabi Clothing

  • CAbi, like most MLMs, is best suited for someone who is naturally extroverted, enjoys talking to people (and being around people), and has excellent charm.

That’s not to say that someone who is not outgoing or does not know many people can not succeed. However, it will be more difficult, especially if you are naturally inclined to sit back and enjoy a social situation rather than be the center of attention.

  • I’m not a big fan of recruitment. Similar to the reason above, CAbi focuses on recruiting compared to some younger MLMs that limit their onboarding process and focus more on sales.

For a variety of reasons, including market saturation, hiring your own local competitors, or just to piss off your friends and family… A constant focus on growing your downline can be counterproductive.

  • While CAbi claims that the additional cost of membership is to ensure that only serious women participate, it also means that this opportunity is out of reach for many.

As a female student looking for a part-time job, CAbi may be too expensive to join. There are alternative MLMs that are less expensive, or if recruitment isn’t your thing, you can also make money online.

CAbi Clothing Reviews: Final Verdict

This CAbi opportunity is ultimately in your hands.

To be successful in multi-level marketing, it is not enough to simply be determined and hardworking, as I explained earlier. Neither every job nor every opportunity is right for everyone.

Talents, skills, life experiences and opportunities vary greatly from person to person. What values you hold and whether they align with those of CAbi and the MLM lifestyle is a personal choice.

In other words, it depends on whether you want it or not. If yes (and you have the financial means), CAbi should be on your list of possible solutions.

In my opinion, being an entrepreneur is essential in today’s society. I would suggest starting an online business if selling and hiring are not your strengths. Let me tell you the best way to start an online business in the next section.
