Book Review: Building Your Business the Right-Brain Way by Jennifer Lee

Through focusing on the strengths of the right hemisphere of the brain, such as creativity, emotion, and visualization, Building Your Business the Right-Brain Way offers a practical translation of the basics of entrepreneurship into a language creatives can easily comprehend.

You may be wondering if you should read the book. This book review will tell you what important lessons you can learn from this book so you can decide if it is worth your time.

At the end of this book review, I’ll also tell you the best way to get rich by reading and writing

Without further ado, let’s get started.

Lesson 1: Diversify your income streams by using your creativity

Entrepreneurs tend to be driven by their passions. Chances are, however, that they’re in business to make money as well as make a living.

Time is directly exchanged for money in service-oriented business models such as coaching. Artisanal work, on the other hand, involves making a product by hand with your own labor. This type of work reaches its financial limit eventually.

There are three ways to make money with time-for-money models: attracting new customers, selling more to existing customers, or raising prices.

Typically, you would receive payment after a face-to-face hour session with a coach. It depends on how much time you have, however, how many sessions you provide. If you want to avoid overworking yourself, you cannot serve an endless stream of customers.

People are also willing to pay a certain amount, but not as much as they would like. Now what? Be innovative!

Coaching sessions can be turned into group sessions, for example. It would allow you to attract more customers, earn more income, and might even allow you to lower your prices in the future to gain even more customers.

An example of creative problem-solving comes from Jane, a holistic health consultant. Her six-module online course, which she delivers in ten hours, was created in just ten hours. She no longer has to work or earn more hours to earn money.

Can you still offer products if you are not a service provider? You could start offering services as a leather artisan, such as group lessons in leather work or distribution of patterns, tutorials and patterns.

Lesson 2: Focus on what you love while getting help with the rest

There might be something preventing you from sharing your gifts, even if you’re passionate about it.

Do you have any idea what that might be?

Do not despair if you are reluctant to do time-consuming but necessary administrative work. If you need help, simply ask for it. No one expects you to carry all the load alone.

Maybe you want to take control of every aspect of your dream business. Long-term, however, you’ll burn out and lose your creativity.

If you are planning to outsource any tasks, determine which ones you should outsource first. Think about what you are not good at. Is there anything that takes too long? Or something that you find boring? Is there anything that drives you crazy?

Beth was doing everything on her own for a long time, but she eventually became overwhelmed by the amount of work she had to do. Therefore, she hired an assistant to help her out. That way, she could focus on the work she really cared about again.

In terms of recruiting support, you have a number of options. For tasks such as bookkeeping or web management, you can hire outside experts for a reasonable fee.

It is also possible to team up and create a strategic partnership with other creative entrepreneurs who are facing similar challenges instead of hiring someone.

Tiffany Han, for example, worked with 12 artists. Using art prints along with coaching exercises, they created a product package together. Thus, they were able to develop an attractive product as well as minimize their marketing workload by using a broader network.

Lesson 3: Planning doesn’t have to be boring, and long-term planning allows you to spot patterns and plan for unexpected events

The creative juices in your head are probably bursting with ideas for new courses, innovative solutions or original artwork. Sometimes, it’s hard to stay focused! Consider doing some long-term planning if you find yourself wandering off track too often.

You don’t have to spend your time in Excel spreadsheets. A huge wall calendar and colorful markers make it just as easy to draw out your work horizon and income plan.

A new seminar program is usually launched by the author every quarter, for example. Her wall calendar lists the main tasks, deadlines, and projected earnings for each launch, which allows her to keep everything in sight.

Her business processes are visually documented by using mind maps, written and designed by Mari Pfeiffer. On this map, the centre is the actual task, surrounded by branches that explore how often it happens, what processes are needed, who is involved, and what questions arise most often.

You may also gain insight into patterns by mapping out your work consistently. Many of the tasks you perform on a regular basis are those that you can plan to execute with less effort next time. You can even use documentation of previous work to create templates for upcoming projects.

An unexpected invitation to present a workshop on a popular live television show once caught the author’s attention. A proposal was crafted using bits and pieces from her old sketchbooks after she remembered to look through her old sketchbooks. Despite little effort, she managed to earn extra cash and customers with her proposal.

Regardless of the approach you choose, add your own creative spin and adapt your routine as needed – so you can keep your brain engaged!

Lesson 4:Take care of yourself to maintain your success

The saying goes, “When it rains, it pours.”

Sure enough, the author does. After her boyfriend was involved in a bike accident and her dad suffered a bad fall, her move to a new house was put on hold.

You may want to control everything, but that just isn’t possible with left-brain tendencies.

To deal with life with ease, let go of control and let go of the urge to control. You will thus be able to maintain the business you spent so much time and effort building.

Doing things “with ease” may seem a little vague to you, but we can help you with three useful strategies.

Trying to find simple solutions is the first step. Her own complicated plans would often cause the author to hit a wall, preventing her from achieving anything. Eventually she stopped overthinking and began jotting down notes for a book, which led to two major projects!

Taking time off is a second strategy. It’s as simple as blocking off some time for relaxation each week, perhaps during evenings when you aren’t working.

Thirdly, create an environment where you feel cared for at work. Put small positive notes on your desk to help you stay motivated when things get tough, and then create your own routines to ensure you work well and feel well.

Sharon Tessandori, a yoga teacher and life coach, stresses self-care as a top priority. She centers herself on her yoga mattress before taking on emails and admin work when she is swamped with them.

As Sharon said, remember that you are the most important part of your business. Why not make it work for you?
