Brainfuse Review – Scam or Legit? Truth Exposed!

Are you looking for a Brainfuse review? But you may wonder if it is a scam.

Online tutoring is one of my favorite ways to make money from home. Making money online is great, but helping people while you work is even better.

You might be looking for a way to supplement your existing income, or you might be looking for a way to work from home and pursue your own interests full-time. You can find opportunities with companies like Brainfuse.

You are not the only one who doubts the legitimacy of Brainfuse; the Internet is full of scams, false promises, and disinformation. Honestly, I had the same thought.

In this Brainfuse review, I’ll break down the company’s offerings and explain whether or not they can help you get legitimate, flexible work-from-home employment.

As a disclaimer, I’m not affiliated with Brainfuse. It means I’m not paid to write this review. So you can rest assured that you will get an honest and unbiased review from me.

At the end of this review, I’ll also tell you the best alternative to Brainfuse that has enabled me to make a full-time passive income online.

What Is Brainfuse?

Brainfuse is an interactive online platform where tutors and students can meet to provide each other with academic support. The company has been based at 271 Madison Ave. in New York since 1999, which is an absolute eon in the digital age.

Brainfuse gives you, the teacher, the opportunity to make a difference while staying in your own home.

Brainfuse also maintains strong relationships with academic and public libraries such as the New York Public Library.

Is Brainfuse Online Tutoring a Scam or Legit?

Although there are numerous online scammers, I’ve yet to come across many that pose as reputable online tutors. If they advertise online tutoring services, you can assume that’s exactly what they offer.

But since they’re online financial transactions, it’s advisable to take precautions. To make sure Brainfuse is genuine, I went through the same process as I do with all our reviews.

Knowing that they work with academic institutions and public libraries, I wasn’t too worried. However, to be sure, I checked out Brainfuse’s reputation and web presence.

Their Facebook page was the first place I looked.

First of all, the presence of a Facebook profile is encouraging. In addition, it appears to be a popular resource. There are pictures of Brainfuse employees at a trade show, and the company has over 1,500 followers (highlighted in the image below).

It’s possible to imitate another person’s identity online. However, scammers are lazy and rarely bother to Photoshop fake images of trade shows.

Brainfuse’s current activity, as well as 1,700 followers (Twitter) and 200+ followers (Instagram), can also be found there (IG).

I found out that the New York Times reported on Brainfuse back in 2006, and that there are reviews of teachers on several websites (which I will discuss in more detail later). Both Tutor.com, with which you may already be familiar, and Brainfuse are reviewed.

Aside from requiring a master’s degree, this is less obvious proof that they are real.

Scammers rarely have complex admissions requirements. Instead, they simplify the eligibility requirements and remove any barriers to participation.

So is Brainfuse a scam? Is it true that all of their posts offering online tutoring are fake?

Brainfuse is indeed not a scam. The tutoring jobs advertised on Brainfuse’s website are genuine and offered by a reputable company.

Reputable companies are only as good as the people they hire. So if you want an “easy start,” keep that in mind. A master’s degree isn’t only a requirement for working at Brainfuse, it’s also a way to thin out the competition.

How Does Brainfuse Online Tutoring Work?

To apply, you’ll need to upload your resume (in PDF format) to the website. If you’re considered for the position, your resume will be reviewed and you’ll receive an email back.

You’ll need to pass a Brainfuse tutor test before you can proceed with your application. And if you’re trying to get into a lot of different courses, that means you’ll have to take multiple tests.

Some of the topics they cover are listed below.

  • Math
  • English
  • Writing
  • Chemistry
  • Physics

For example, if you’re applying for a job as an English teacher, you’ll have to take a grammar test. Also, an online reviewer position at Brainfuse (in the English/Writing departments) may include a grammar test as part of the hiring process.

I don’t think I need to mention this specifically, but just to reiterate: You must pass the test before you can move forward in your training. You’ll have numerous opportunities to take the test, which is good news. Your quiz scores will reset without your intervention (just give it some time).

It sounds simple.

While this may be beneficial for some, more experienced educators and online teachers may prefer a more rigorous approach to testing. Education and experience are a great advantage, but they’re no guarantee of success in today’s job market.

However, if you are a first-time teacher or online tutor, a straightforward application process is essential.

You must now pass their tests and be accepted before you can begin training. Based on my research and available contacts from other instructors, I have concluded that the training is not particularly difficult. The focus is on Brainfuse itself and not on tutoring in general or in specific subjects.

Brainfuse Hours

As a freelancer at Brainfuse, you can set your own schedule.

You can work whenever it suits you by checking the platform’s availability calendar or by arranging lessons in advance.

However, this condition assumes that there are actually tutoring jobs available when you need them. You may need to rearrange some of your schedules to match those of your student.

One advantage of being a freelancer, however, is that you do not have to work exclusively for Brainfuse. There are many other online tutoring platforms you can apply to, and you can always find something to do in your spare time.

How Much Does Brainfuse Pay?

Because of the wide variety of salary ranges, I will not give specifics. Most of what we know about salaries at Brainfuse is hearsay.

Several Brainfuse job reviews mention that tutors are paid between $11 and $13 per hour for their one-hour lessons, and that payments are made bi-weekly via PayPal or direct deposit.

That said, it would be fantastic if you could share your experience with Brainfuse in the comments if you can provide additional information about salaries. People who are thinking about trying Brainfuse will benefit from reading this.

This is not a profession for everyone, but if you have patience and a genuine interest in helping others learn, it could be perfect for you.

Brainfuse Reviews and Complaints

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is the first place I go when I want to learn about customer experiences and concerns. Brainfuse is listed there, but isn’t recognized.

Not only that, their file was only created in 2010, but they’ve no rating now (NR).

The BBB claims they asked Brainfuse for background information and received none. Since there’s no law requiring a company to be accredited by the BBB, I don’t want to pay too much attention to this. Neither students nor educators have filed complaints with the BBB against Brainfuse.

In fact, this is the only place where we find both positive and negative reviews. There Brainfuse has received 69 reviews and has an average rating of 2.8 stars. That could change by the time you read this.

Below are some enthusiastic testimonials about them.

  • On Brainfuse, some people have discovered rewarding remote jobs.
  • You have full control over your schedule.
  • Brainfuse is a solid tutoring platform, according to several reviewers.

Some of the many complaints posted on Indeed’s review page are listed below…

  • Poor management support (until you screw up, then you are made aware of your mistake).
  • Teachers and tutors are poorly paid.
  • Time pressure can lead to poor quality work.
  • Tutors may have 2 to 6 students per session (and you are not allowed to mention this to your students).
  • There may be unpleasant students in your virtual classroom (which can be difficult to handle since they are paying customers).

I want to make it clear that I am not trying to pass judgment or validate these kinds of concerns. I just mention them for your information.

It has been my experience that disgruntled customers are more inclined to leave a review than satisfied customers who leave a positive review. As a result, the reviews tend to be unfavorable overall.

There are some similar reviews and ratings on Glassdoor. More than 80 user reviews have given Brainfuse an average rating of 2.8 stars. Their users have described some of the benefits below…

  • Tutoring on their website is pleasant and easy.
  • You can set your own working hours.
  • Teaching students is a pleasant experience.

Glassdoor has some negative aspects, like…

  • Pay is modest.
  • Some students can be demanding and demanding.
  • There is no guarantee that work will always be available.

How Do I Become A BrainFuse Tutor?

Submitting an application is a simple process. Your CV will be reviewed and you will be contacted if a position becomes available. If you are selected, you will be contacted to let you know how to begin your training and, later, mentoring. That pretty much sums things up! To apply, you must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.

Most of your initial questions, such as how to use the classroom software, will be answered during your training.

If you do not live in the United States and your Brainfuse application is not accepted, you can find similar opportunities in our list of the best free work-from-home tutoring jobs.

What Are The Requirements To Tutor at Brainfuse?

You will need a four-year university degree, preferably in education, but not mandatory. They will also want to see evidence to support the information in your resume. You will also be required to undergo a reference and background check.

After a successful background check and approval of your application, you can begin paid tutoring.

Pros of Brainfuse Online Tutoring

  • Brainfuse is legitimate. I realize this is a low bar for things I appreciate about Brainfuse, but when it comes to making money online, the legitimate companies far outweigh the scammers.
  • They allow teachers to supplement their income.
  • Making money from home is excellent, but making money while helping others is even better.
  • Since Brainfuse online tutoring is provided remotely, you can work on your own schedule.

Cons of Brainfuse Online Tutoring

  • According to some reviews, communication with Brainfuse management is weak, and numerous tutors have stated that they have had difficulty contacting support services when problems arise.
  • You may have to tutor more than one student at a time, but students are not expected to be aware of this.
  • Pay could be higher. $11 to $13 per hour might be a little low, depending on where you live and your financial situation.
  • Reports of unpleasant students in the (virtual classroom) seem to be common. This is not necessarily the students’ fault if they think you are just dealing with them while you are also teaching others. Some students may be unpleasant because they do not know you are dealing with multiple students at the same time (you may not inform them of this).

Brainfuse Review: Final Verdict

Brainfuse is a real alternative if you have a passion for teaching and want to teach students from the comfort of your own home.

You can count on getting paid, even if the salary is not ideal. When it comes to paying tutors, Brainfuse is reliable and punctual. Despite their claims, they often will not be able to support you financially on a full-time basis. Student availability is a key factor in getting the job done.

Brainfuse and other home-based jobs can be a great way to supplement your existing income, or they can be one of many jobs you take on as a diversified freelancer.

However, if you want to start an online business, let me tell you more in the next section.
